SPEC: It's a hint!

Based on my limited abilites in Latin, and with the help of several on-line translators, heres what I came up with:

Veritas = truth
Occultum = hidden / concealed

Optatio = hoping / wishing
Venatio = hunting / chasing

Authore = written [by]
Reverendissimo = revered /reverend
Et = and
Clarissimov = famous / illustrious
Viro = man / hero / honored one
Ioanne Tritheimo = a name, anglicized as Johannes Trithemius
Abbate = abbot / head of a religious order
Spanheimsi = the name of the abbey
Magiae = wise / learned /astrologer / magician
Naturalis = natural scientist / philosopher
Magistro = teacher / master /expert
Perfectissimo = complete / perfert / excellent

Putting it all together:

Hidden Truth
Chasing the Wish

Written by the revered and illustrious man
Johannes Trithemius
Abbott of Spanheimensi,
Magician, Philosopher, & Perfect Master

Now, here's the fun part, when I Google Spanheimensi, I get this reference: http://www.esotericarchives.com/tritheim/stegano.htm

STEGANOGRAPHIA:
Hoc est: ARS PER OCCVLTAM SCRIPTVRAM ANIMI SVI VOLVNTATEM ABSENTIBVS aperiendi certa;
AVTHORE
REVERENDISSIMO ET CLARISSIMO VIRO,
IOANNE TRITHEMIO,
Abbate Spanheimensi, & Magiæ Naturalis Magistro perfectissimo.

One of the early books on steganography, written by Johannes Trithemius in 1599, was allegedly a book on "angel magic," but actually contained a hidden, sophisticated system of steganography.

The book claims to contain "an accelerated language learning system and a method of sending messages without symbols or messenger,"

So is it stegged?

Or I've been looking at this page (another of his works-Polygraphiae):

http://www.hmml.org/resources/Trithemius/Cryptography.html

And although not a great match/picture ...to me the symbols look very similar to those on the HN Manuscript.

The nine

I'm totally guessing here, but could the Nine symbols on this page equate to the Nine we are trying to find from the AGP Layout Phrase? Just kick me if this sounds totally bogus. I'm still tired this early in the morning. Confused

The picture doesn't appear to be steged, but it may be. I have it a shot yesterday and didn't get anything from it.

Good catch with the .'s. Those appear to be inserted because they are colored the same as the backround and in their own table. I don't think they were there accedently, but I don't know why they are there. Smile

I am thinking that the manuscript somehow relates to the guides email. But I'm not sure of that at all. Smile

Trithemius planetary system

doing some research.. came across this system Trithemius used to order the planets which is very reminscent of the planets puzzle on mythosphere.org:

Quote:
The sequence used by Trithemius is Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Moon, Sun, which is the reverse sequence of the planetary days of the Week. Trithemius lists the angels ruling each planetary period as Saturn, Orifiel; Venus, Hanael or Anael, Jupiter, Zachariel, Mercury, Raphael, Moon, Gabriel and the Sun, Michael.

from http://www.renaissanceastrology.com/heavenlyintelligences.html

unfortunately, clicking that order on the planets puzzle gets you nowhere.

<sigh>

The really CRAPPY thing about this stegged image is that StegDetect and other steganography software was written by Niels Provos, a graduate student at the University of Michican where the SuperDMCA (so called) was just enacted that made his research and software illegal, along with OutGuess.

So... if you're new to steganography, and wanted to get the software, it's too late...

If I find any tools, you'll find them at http://www.wearehope.com/steg/

I have copies of stegdetect and stegbreak if anyone needs them for educational or artistic purposes only. Smile

Steg detect doesn't find anything on the manuscript, and I set stegbreak on it with the dictionary I made from all the words from all of dales emails. Nada.

First, the link to the manuscript page is here:

http://www.aglauranj.org/manuscriptpage.html

Second, if you highlight the whole page, there are a series of dots/periods along each side of the manuscript (in the HTML around the image). The are seven rows, containing 0-4 dots (varies per line). I also noticed there are seven red flowers on each side of the manuscript. They either face the reader or a turned away. I'm guessing that the dots/flower facing combination somehow match up to form a code we can solve. I've gote the dot count/flower facing combinations below, where flower facing reader=1, flower facing away=0.

2/1 4/1
0/1 0/0
2/0 0/1
0/1 0/0
2/0 0/0
2/1 2/1
2/1 0/0

I counted the other flowers and images in the border, and they amount doesn't match.

I can't figure out what to do at this point with it. Maybe I'm off base, but it seems a more likely solution then a stegged image. Whatever hidden information this puzzle is offering is coming from the writer of this book, who's been dead for quite some time.

The dots....

Are we sure that the dots aren't just used for spacing in the table code?

I guess we can't be SURE, but it was just a thought.

Steg Results...

So the steg results are in... after 129,241,510 cracks against the file with SINGLE WORDS from 40 LANGUAGES, the crack came up empty.

If the file is stegged, it's multiple words. I can be fairly certain of that.
