I do not believe there are voicemail messages to retrieve at Tom Gheppetto's number. Other voicemail boxes were found, but that's quite normal when you escape out of the line you've called into the main 'directory.'

Those other boxes seem to mean nothing - they just happen to be close in digit order to the one for Tom, or because the player thought they'd try LUCY, since those digits are already spelled out in the limo service number.

Oops, my bad.

Those rules have been up there the whole time - just the red text was added, and the heading "Lucky's Quick and Dirty Rules For".

OMG CJ! How about some spoiler tags? You just ruined the whole game for me. Thanks a lot.

People these days...

last call poker press release

I just got a press release from Last Call Poker. It's a standard gimmicky press release. There was the release (i see someone posted that), a card with a very obvious hidden message in it (see scan), a deck of cards with a royal flush of spades stapled into a fan and a bunch of poker chips (much heavier than the plastic ones I've seen, so I guess these are what real casino poker chips must look like) all in a box packed in straw. It's a pretty standard, professionally done PR kit. Since I'm always getting press releases on poker, which is apparently the hot thing nowadays, I would be inclined to think this is a real poker site engagin in viral marketing, but who knows. I actually haven't played poker yet; I got to a table, realized I didn't understand the interface and didn't have time to bother with it right then. But the ARG part is intriguing.

There are a ton of non-ARG folks playing the game now, and it's pretty funny. They don't understand the whole thing about us being dead. They all put "n/a" for their mortography. It really cracks me up that people are wasting time on this site thinking it's just about poker. How stupid can you be to not see what's going on there?

I mean, I've talked to them with the chat interface, and they have no idea that there's a lot more going on than poker. Apparently, they don't know how to click around a website to see things. I don't know.

I guess I find it really annoying that there are all these guys who think they're these cool poker players and they take it all seriously, while I'm just trying to participate in the ARG.

Hi, cherold, and welcome to Unfiction. Smile

May I ask why you get poker-related press releases frequently?

Somehow I think that this was intended by the brilliant Puppetmaster.

I like the fact that there are people just having fun playing poker. Adds a dimension of reality.

My terrible hearing still isn't picking up the first few words of every audio file, after the funky noises. Anyone care to clarify?

I wouldn't call them stupid. It took me a few weeks to really get ANY sort of grip on the Beast, and I wasn't too late to the game (I think my join date at Cloudmakers was the night of the ARM rallies).

Patience is a virtue. I love to see the magic of the story work on a few people, though, and suck them in. It's very very very cool.

Well, what do you mean by "a grip?" I wasn't around for the Beast, I have no idea what it was, but I have to imagine that if you were playing it for a few weeks, you knew that there was something special there. These guys just think that it's another poker site, regardless of the really strange pictures we have to set for ourselves, and the date of death stuff. I mean, they're hitting us all over the heads to make sure we know, but they still don't get it.
