Safe inside

hmmmm

Warning: I'm rather new here, so if this is not the sort of post that should be in this forum, please tell me.

I was sitting in on the poker game this evening, where the ever plesant Lucky delived the following tip before mopping the floor with the players:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
(not quote, sorry) Gun players should check the desk of dreaded Hollister

After which Shadow asked "Are you sure it's Safe, though?"

I don't have the game myself, so perhaps someone could post a screenshot or somthing...

I am offically sleep deprived and in posession of the secret of the safe...

Initialy, I was upset at the minor-spoilage of the location, but I'm glad Lucky mentioned it, because there's NO way I would have figured it out on my own...

yay sleep!

I've gotten to the point where I rescued Soapy. 35% complete at this point. I'm still hunting down MacGruder. But then again, I only had 2.5 hours to play. Smile

Hollister still hasn't been introduced to me.

I gave up trying to get there at about two in the morning...

Protecting the bridge from the fire arrow shooting natives is what set me back at first...

Duh, switch weapons when they jump out goofball!
Whisky bomb? Brilliant! *hop*

I'm at 53% (I played waaaaaay too much last night/this morning), and just escaped from Hollister's fort. Didn't see a desk anywhere to go through, so hope I didn't miss it.

HitsHerMark:

I always attack the Indians, they are less dangerous at close range. Melee is a wonderful thing. No idea why in this game, a man that is at least a half breed is better with a tomahawk then a full blodded Indian.

After attacking the train, Clay says, "How do you know Apache?"
And Colton says, "i don't know, It's like I know whathe's saying but can't speak it."

He's got to be at least a half breed, which would fit into our ARG nicely.

I got it after the end of the game, but might have missed it in a lack-of-sleep state... if someone else tries it before the end, and it works, I'll kick myself for not trying it earlier... I was thinking "Yes, we have to stop Hollister. WAIT - is that a desk?" - and then spent a good 15 minutes zooming with the rifle to see if I could read anything.

I'm sure they were standing there, tapping their feet, staring at their wrist-sundials or whatever they had, thinking "good lord - what's that guy doing?"

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In Hollister's Fort, stand at the far end of the desk that has maps and skulls and such, a popup says "Inspect Hollister's Desk." When you press the button, it says "LETTER - There's a letter from Magruder to Hollister. Scratched on the bottom is: "Get to the safe. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. You know what to do."

The desk is in the building with two fireplaces, where you had to run upstairs and throw dynamite at the last cannon.

I should also point out that my favorite part, after the end of the game is Hollister's Fort. The indians are running around it like it's a tourist attraction...

I'm not going to mouse over that until I've had a crack at it.

I have discovered several things as I was playing.

1. I suck at "tactical shooters"
2. I am a spaz.
3. Regardless of points 1 and 2, I really like tactical shooters.
4. Gun = w00t!

I got it for the Gamecube because the Wavebird is the best controler of this generation. If you have a cube, I suggest you take advantage of it.

Is the general presumption that the Secret is different for each copy of GUN, with the same one-to-a-person rule as the Mark of the Joker?

I would assume they'd be different: but one way to tell: my code ends in "114020" - anyone else got it yet???

I totally went past that part. I'm trying to kill MacGruder right now.

I'll give you a hint:

He's wearing armor that is impervious to:

Bullets (headshots don't even phase him)
Blades (tomahawk or cavalry sword)
gas bottles
dynamite
his own dynamite that seems magnetic to your body. (I've tried using it against him but it never works.)

and pretty much everything else this game has a model for.

Oh yeah, and I did I mention he could put a hole through a penny at 5 million yards?

I'm getting super frustrated so I might just go back to hollister and try to find the secret of the safe.

Yay! I got it! Thanks Jsailor. Lucky I save at the beginning of each mission. Smile

EDIT: My number was different than jsailors. Maybe the serial number of the game is embedded in that "letter"

Now back to that bastard MacGruder.

I'm about ready to give up on this game.

I've been playing the Magruder level for a total of 4.5 hours. I have yet to get him anywhere close to half dead.

He's like Hollister but with impenetrable armor.

The funniest thing still though is the armor protects his head from head shots even though it's only a chestplate.
