Posting dead is just another part of poker-speak. It means you've entered the game, and you're not waiting for the big blind to come around so you can put in your chips to play. Instead, to penalize you for not waiting, you have to put up a post amount "dead", a specified amount to just enter the game, without seeing your cards, just for you. Dead because you're paying money, but you don't have your cards yet. If you wait for the big blind, you don't have to do this.
