[SOLVED] paris/1008.html (string)

416 characters in total, 65 unique characters

Most frequent: K (12 times), 9 (12 times), J (11 times)
Least frequent: = (only once, obviously special position)

Compared to the string on floorplans.html, it's apparent that there are exactly the same unique characters in both strings, while J is very frequent in both of them. However, '/' appears only 4 times in this (longer) string, while it is most frequent in the shorter string on floorplans.html (thus no special meaning for both of them?).

J is one of the most frequent letters in both strings.

Could they be connected?

A friend and I sat staring at the code on Floor1c.jpg and couldn't find any pattern in them at all. Grr. THey seemed to be wholly unconnected.

I'm lost.

My guess is, they are indeed connected as both of them end in "=" .
The two strings on the picture end with "==" and there must be some connection to the one floorplans and 1008, but the characters are completely different and I can't see a link.

Let's not forget that the string on twofish.html definitely is connected to this one. Both the fact that you find the twofish in this one's source and that the description of both of them is the same point towards their dependency on each other.

By now we know that this can be cracked with a tool called ClipSecure set to the options
Algorithm: Twofish
Chaining: CFB8bit
Hash: RipeMD

But we need to figure out the keyword.
A hint for this is the tag at the end of the source code of twofish.html on which the above information was found. It says "REMEMBER YOUR IMPERATIVES"

I re-read the encrypted text on imp.html as it contains Parrish's imperatives. I tried several words from this one, as follows:
nopiggybacking
piggybacking
self-destruction
protection
protectionofsubject
subject
belton
schreber

Above this I tried:
884p-86f-81 (Parrish's ID...but it was used before in a camouflaged pic)
CRYPTography (because it was written in that strange way on twofish - but I suppose that was just to make it harder to recognize the Gibberish Key)
CRYPT (or crypt)

I believe you are correct, Abraxas. I would bet money that the 1008.html text is encrypted using the Twofish-CFB8bit-RipeMD method. If that's true, either we haven't tried the correct encryption key or it's not decryptable using ClipSecure.

Since I haven't found another decryption program that allows you to specify a specific chaining mode, I'm praying it's the former! At nodes.html, the encryption key was obvious (nodes) but I've tried 1008, 8001 (since it's right justified), most if not all of the ones you've tried and then some. So far no luck.

People, we are so close on this one! The more people that download ClipSecure and try to decrypt it, the better! One of us is bound to come up with the right decryption key!

Of course, if the text really can't be decrypted using ClipSecure, then I'm sending you on a wild goose chase. Mad Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing that without actually decrypting it.

[SOLVED]

Got it. Try with Clipsecure (CFB8Bit; RipeMD; Twofish)

Use the password
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
password

Yeah, kinda cheesy.

Results:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Subject:
subject must be protected at all costs, overriding all

other imperatives.
subject must be allowed to have the illusion of freedom of choice.
subject alone is permitted to host and interact with entities within the gateway: this is CRITICAL.

Agent:
agent must not compromise the security of the company.
agent must remain within the portal/gateway if security is compromised via entity invasion and await for extraction.
agent agrees to self-terminate in the event of declining control within the portal/gateway.
agent must protect the subject at all costs, overriding all other imperatives.

W00t My first solve!!! Laughing

Good job, plw! Laughing
It's kinda silly and if you think about it almost insulting, but whatever...
The text itself wasn't exactly worth the effort (although you can read a bit inside), because that thing is almost rotten by now. Rolling Eyes

So, do you still think that VaporLofts isn't completely idiotic when it comes to their informational security? Very Happy

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? Mad Mad Mad Oy. Just oy. Very good job to pl_walker and congrats on your first solve. Mad props. But sheesh! Can't express my frustration level right now.

Anyway, my take on this text is as follows:

Subject: Anne Schreber. Agent: Franklin Parrish.

Vapor will be sending Anne into the portal with Parrish. Parrish is to protect Anne at all times overriding all other imperatives? Interesting. Don't get too warm and fuzzy about Vapor, they are probably more interesting in protecting their asset/investment than a human life. Still, it paints a slightly better picture of Vapor. At least she is supposed to be protected!

I still can't believe that flippen encryption key...
