[UPDATE] Perplexcity.com - Sneak Preview of PPC Guide

Quote:
Sneak preview of the Perplex City Guide
30th September 2005

Our Story So Far is currently being updated, but you can see a sneak preview of the Perplex City Guide. If you want to know what's been going on with the search for the Cube, from its theft right up to the present, the Guide is for you.

Good synopsis so far, though perhaps I'd include a bit more about Scarlett pre-Viendenbourg (ie, her website, etc). (I'm assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that Wishi wrote this and is reading the boards Wink)

Also, should the guide include, perhaps, some of the indirect stories? Like Joya, the PCAG, Ruth Coralhouse's bequest, Earth-obsession, the Djinn virus? (Maybe a little 'also happening at this time' in the recap section. Or maybe that's overkill Razz)

Also, a small mention: it's, uh, Bernardo Holyoke and Helena Frye.

Lovely guide!

If it is taken that the site is in game, which it appears to be trying to be with the academy logo at the bottom along with MC, then perhaps someone should tell Scarlett. From her first email:

Quote:
I can't quite explain what I'm doing, even to myself, but I can't stop now. And because I can't tell my friends or my family, I'm telling you. I'll send out an email every week.

Come to think of it, someone should tell Violet too. Clearly nothing can kept from the omniscient Sente, unless MC are witholding information from him and he's not doing a very good job of checking up on them. First person who gets an MC employee to turn on Sente wins nothing except maybe the cube!

The latest incarnation of the PerplexCity.com site seems to me to be straddling the line between in-game and out-of-game.

Since we haven't told Mind Candy any of this directly (to my knowledge) they've obviously obtained most of the info from the forums here (which are completely OOG officially) or by following their own clues. Both of which seem very strange for an in-game site.

On the other hand, sections of the site still seem to be a trailhead for the ARG as a whole (like the "How to Play" page).

I personally think that MC is struggling with a way to draw in new players to a game that's been going on for a long time and will continue for a lot longer. I think as time goes on the PerplexCity.com site will become more and more OOG until it is merely a resource to get you started. Of course that would be more clear if they would take all the in-game content out and put it on a different site.

I'm pretty sure the guide is not available to Sente or any of the characters in the game. It's only stuff available to players.

Then again... I could be completely wrong Smile

The site (or at least that part) seems pretty Out-Of-Game. It also seems VERY Adrian - I mean, hit me with a fish if I'm wrong, but he wrote The Guide to the Beast on cloudmakers.org. This kind of Guide seems exactly the kind of thing he would keep track of, in it's writing style, organization, etc.

Plus everyone likes a detailed, organized synopsis. Especially with a game that's scheduled to run as long as PPC.
