Serenity ARG? Or just viral marketing?

Back in June, there was speculation that the domain bluesun.org might be part of an ARG to promote the upcoming film Serenity. Now a video clip prefaced "R. Tam, Session 416, Second Excerpt" has turned up on IFILM: http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2677821 In the clip "a guy starts convulsing on camera before collapsing to the floor" after which Summer Glau's character River Tam appears. As Serenity has already had multiple advance screenings, it's fairly safe to say that this footage is not from the film itself. Any thoughts about what might be going on?

And, um, I've had an account here for awhile, but this is my first post, so sorry if I've done something wrong.

wow, interesting.

Bluesun.org was put up by a fan and admitted to as much on a message board somewhere (I've long since lost the link, but it's probably around here somewhere), so I doubt it's related to that. But interesting none the less.

I'd LOVE to see a Serenity ARG!

Edited to add a Welcome! and, no, you did nothing wrong. Hope you post more than once every 10 months though Smile

I thought that domain was fan-registered, but it's nice to get confirmation of that. Apparently this clip was initially found with file-sharing software, although how I've no idea. A few days before this Joss Whedon said that Universal was about to begin its marketing push, so hopefully more "sessions" will turn up.

Wow. I come here to ask if anyone has found any more, and what do I find? This thread. Awsome. I'm currently scouring the net to see if anything turns up.

<drool>

I have yet to watch "Objects at Rest." I'm both excited about and dreading it. Very Happy Crying or Very sad Shocked Confused Sad

I heard a rumor, however, that there's a strong possibility that if Serenity does well, they might make another Firefly movie.

Anyone heard anything more definite?

Of course, what I really want is the series back, but multiple movies would ease my pain somewhat.

The actors signed a contract for 3 movies, providing that the first one does well at the box office.

Serenity + ARG = <3

Though...well, I won't say anything now, having seen the movie, but it would be tricky in certain respects...okay, never mind, commentary will wait. Smile

First off, I'm assuming you ment Objects in Space. Unless you're hiding episodes from us... and you're not, riiiiight? =P

Next off, the actors have signed on for three movies, Serenity needs $80 US WORLDWIDE (a highly achievable goal) for Serenity II: So Much Nekkid (Joss's unofficial title, not mine).

I watched the clip before seeing this thread and never once thought "ARG." I'm so ashamed.

ETA: link to the whedonesque thread.

possible clue?

Session 416

If 416 refers to a date (April 16)... Sean Maher, who plays Dr. Simon Tam on Firefly / Serenity was born on April 16, 1975.

For you non-browncoats...
The girl who appears at the end of the clip is River Tam, played by Summer Glau. MINOR SPOILER FOR FIREFLY PILOT EPISODE:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In the series (and upcoming film), River is Simon's extremely gifted sister (his words: "River wasn't just gifted - she was a gift") who was sent to a government academy, where experiments were performed on her.

I think this may require further investigation... Very Happy

Has anyone tried seeing if there's some sort of scramble on it? The staticy noise seems a bit to placed to me....

Now that's very interesting.

While I think this initial clip was planted at IFILM and perhaps elsewhere, we're told that it was found with file-sharing software, so that's a good bet for finding our "first excerpt." (Although I think that "second excerpt" was chosen to imply that there is more, not that we'll necessarily see more of session 416.)

Apparently the logo at the start was among the (some quite spoilery, some not so much) graphics Geoffrey Mandel had on his website before they were taken down.

Now that's something I don't know anything about, but, hey, I finally got around to reading Pattern Recognition over the weekend, so I'm primed.

I saw over on the official website that someone has set up a mailing list http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/session-416/ for further discussion, but Yahoo seems to be having trouble at present.

Well, just to help eliminate some venues, nothing at all came up on KazaaLite under the search of River Tam, Session 416, R. Tam or Session 001. Heh. Serenity only turned up porn, it seems.

Completely agree with you on that. *nodnod*

And hey, considering, apparently, there are at least 416 sessions, maybe we'll be getting ALOT more.
