[POKER] Sponsored Tournament/ARG Player? Ok so we all know that J_dot_J is not the most helpful and prob will end up getting into the tournament.
I and others are under the impression that the new message on the front page.
Quote:
REMEMBER all players go back to their base $10,000 (plus any bonuses earned).
Invitation for the Leader Board Tournament will go out to the top seven chip holders at that time.
The Leader Board Tournament will be Wednesday October 5, 2005 at 7:00pm PST.
so with that said i feel we should pick a night when we can have a donate night and transfer our chips to an argn player that we can all trust. In this way we can find a way to get an argn player on the leaderboard thus solving the puzzle. I am thinking that someone that has spades are a more than likely canidate. What do you guys think and if its a yes how do we go about this.

All right, who are our best poker players?
Maybe we should get two up there on the board?

Nomination of Leftbrained for uF/ARGN card sharp! My suggestion: Leftbrained - he was on the chip leader board for a bit the other day, and is also on the social leader board.
Gotta get all in a game sometime here on Friday night and let us muck out hands in big stakes games.
Everyone else can go try to win scapes from non-ARGN/uF peoples (guests are good for this, they have no stake in the outcome of the larger game:D )
Are we Gaming the system? Yes we are a bit - lets hope we can learn something good!

It's nice that you are taking one for the team. I don't know how I would have handled myself if a dead drug dealer who craves pork rinds was coming on to me. But, I guess since you're dead (or is it your twin - I forget) you have to get your kicks somewhere.
Btw, I too have some chips that I'm doing nothing with since I'm just not the type to play poker *gasp*

A question The tournament is to reward the people who attained a status on the leaderboard and to cushion the blow of losing all those chips. The tournament provides incentive for the poker players to keep playing at the Last Call Poker Site even though every week they have to endure a reset. (can you imagine having to restart Kingdom of Loathing every week with nothing more than you had at the beginning?)
Perhaps we should let the tournament play out and see what happens? I am sure someone will give us a report. At least a few players will share their experiences in a tournament honoring their skill at poker. Given human nature, I am sure we can find people who will want to tell us all about it.
In any event the PMs will make sure we get all information we need - we don't have to make that work. We can trust them to get what we need to us.
I know that we went through this whole division of "sides" when the Halo players arrived to play i love bees. The admins, mods and the channel ops handled that spectacularly well. But I would prefer to minimize it in this game.
I have one practical reason - the philosophical arguments you know-but remember we still have to play this game on the last call site. I lovebees was primarily "played" here on this forum. By which I mean the interactions of the players happened here. No players interacted on the ilovebees site.
Last Call is played in a large part on that site- not here. The cards and the poker rooms are there. We interact with the other poker players all the time. Antagonizing a large percentage of the people we will be playing poker with, including the "best" players by the game's own measure, will be counterproductive.
I am certain that if we work out some collaborative manipulation of the process and get a person onto the leaderboard, thereby making sure someone else doesn't get to the tournament, there will be hell to pay for it later.
It seems like an extreme version of "us" versus "them."
So I suggest the 'wait and see' approach. Now that we know the tournament exists and the chips matter, I think that the best players here may decide to play more aggresively for the next tournament. Nothing wrong with that.
---
Also maybe we are falsely assuming that we have to win the tournament to advance the story or whatever. Nothing written anywhere supports that conclusion.

Nothing written supports the negative either (keep in mind I am looking from a natural science - physics/biology point of view where theories can change based on observation )
This also has the feel of a bit of Video game to it. Nothing written in the "how to play this game" info tells you what you need to accomplish to Unlock (and yes LCP uses the word unlock) additional characters. In ARG's not all puzzles are announced. Nor is it announced where you should look for clues. ILB spoiled us - nearly everthing pointed to a clue. Here - we have the other (real) players, the Bots, the Characters (who may be bots triggered by keyword), and since this game is less than a week old and we have not gone through a "reset" tournament yet (nothing I have seen points to the big winners "losing their additional chips, but I figure we will find that out on Saturday at the reset time. ). Maybe it isn't Winning a reset Tournament but being there that is the key - I note that the 7 top players will be invited (8 can be accomodated at the table!) leaving room for one special player. WHO WILL IT BE? If the Characters play the bots in the "private access denyied rooms, could the bots be funneling chips to the character that is to be in the tournament so that the "tournament rules" (chip leaders) are honored?
What happens if the last rung is a tie? If two people tie for 7th place then does it not follow that the 8th place is for that "extra" person? I think the tie at the bottom will involve a regular player and a character. I don't think it will be Lucy - she lost the house - but even suckers get lucky once in a while...
Let the chips fall where they may - I still think it would be a good idea to have one tagged ARG player among the winners if only to go fishing with whomever shows up. If only to record the proceedings in a possibly private room. (Aaahhhhh - too many variable to track! Wishi! Mart! Greywyvern! Scarpegrosse! AnThrax101! HELP!)
I think the flaming nutter sums up my position on this.
OK, I am off to go rip out the skin of my eyeballs so they will stop itching.
