@Law of Five
If your machine and/or your connection isn't too slow get Google Earth, the basic version is free and there are so many placemarks these days that you are guaranteed to find out what any building in London is. Especially London, because the world capitals are mapped in incredible detail by user input.
You could also get Worldwind (which is in 3d at least for the most parts, but only detailed in varius - mostly US - areas) or some other free software, but I must say Google Earth is simply the best.

Not that you couldn't find it on any other "normal" maps, but this way is the most fun. Wink

NB - to the Scribes -

The above-but-one post is not an attack on any of you (I know you're a sensitive bunch, so I've chosen my words carefully). Please don't feel that you have to respond to all or any of my questions, which were chosen more for amusement and entertainment than for sheer enquiry. But, as this thread is labelled 'Scribes', I thought it might be interesting to see what you lot make of it all of this, if the Scribes have any more idea than the rest of us as to what is going on, if they're looking forward to the quest for the 13books or if they are secretly dreading what Islington is going to demand of them...

Peace, love and understanding,

Law of Five

Thx, Abraxas, but my home machine is a Mac (no Google Earth) and my work machine is a 'no installer privileges' PC, so it's a no go. I will post some pics of the various maps over on the Book Zero thread so maybe someone from London can ID the building for me...

Law...
I can't answer for the other "Scribes", but for me, The only one of your questions I have an answer for is that yes, I consider myself a player and nothing more.
I didn't ask to be a scribe, but don't mind the moniker.
If it should ever evolve into something more "PM-ish", I'd likely ask for someone else to take my place. Depends on the requirement(s). which I have not been made aware of.
Anything I have received from Iz or OrKid, I have posted, and will continue to do so, if at all possible.
For your other questions, I'm as curious as you are. Dunno

EDIT:
If you held a gun to my head and made me guess what this is all about, today's answer would be that it is an attempt at recognition for someone who thinks they can do better than BBC's Jamie Kane ARG.
Which, if true will really piss me off!

You don't seem to be very lovingly talking about this game lately or is it just me? Razz
Good to know that you scribes don't understand a lot more than me for example.

Actually, Law, I think I'm the most sensitive of them all...LOL Embarassed
Not on purpose though, I just hate being misjudged, and usually open my big mouth to defend whenever the mood hits. Laughing (Blame my life's experiences of being misjudged for that one...) Laughing

I've dropped the defensive though, the walls are broken down, and the swords are back in the case--from now on I plan to ignore anything that overtly pisses me off, it saves me some heartache and time that I should be spending on speculating/working this thing out. (Not to mention keeping out ballooning OT convo on my part) I'm done with rebuttals, it wastes too much energy and fills me with negative vibes. You won't be seeing any more angry epic rants from this ol' girl. Very Happy Good vibes from now on. Very Happy *strumming her guitar---"kumbayah......"* Laughing

But as for your questions, I am pretty much in the same boat as Rogi. I consider myself a player, an observer, and no different than anyone else playing this game. Also I agree with Rogi as far as the PM-ish stuff goes. I'll do anything asked of me within reason, as long as I don't have to take a step behind the curtain (or get on a plane Laughing ). I am not feeling any dread, just a quiet anticipation and apparent excitement for that which lies ahead.

As far as contact goes, I have never been directly contacted by Islington, so far I believe I am the only scribe who hasn't been. I have spoken with Orkid on one occasion via AIM, and I like Rogi and the rest, have shared what we get, as we get it.

Scribeship doesn't make you more important, we're all equal, in my opinion. I'm no different than another average joe who just stumbled onto this experience today. We didn't ask to become scribes, and we're all still trying to figure out exactly why that is/happened, and what purpose we'll serve. We were all really banded into this "leading" position, even though we're thankful and flattered, but it's hard having suspicious fingers pointing at you from a thousand directions and still try to retain some sense of self as a participant, and to contribute in a normal manner. Just because a scribe has a theory, doesn't make it so. We're as in the dark as the rest of you, clinging to the sparkling light in the distance that Islington shines.

If I'm purged as a scribe, so be it, either I served my purpose and am no longer needed, or our dear Triscal didn't think I was cut out for the job. I try to play this game like I live my life, just roll with the punches as they come, and take everything one day at a time---with hope for the future.

Hope this helps.
Peace to all.

One more question for Ye Scribes:

How do you see this ending? I mean, Islington is after the 13 books he lost in The Incident. And we're trying, in a round-about way to discover the indentity and location of each book. But do we have to find the specific copy? Are they rare books (few copies, limited editions, etc.) or are they specific copies or editions of common books? What I'm trying to say, for example, is: isn't 1984 a bit easy? I mean, it was on the very first page on the first day (the Orwellian filter), and you can pop down to Waterstones and pick up a copy for Islington tomorrow. Or is he after a specific 1984 in a specific location at a specific time? Like, for instance, the copy in Fidel Casto's Library? Or Tony Blair's copy of Animal Farm? And what are we to do with each book if and when we find them? Or will be just find out as we find them? So many questions, so few answers...

Confused,

Law of Five

Law,
Again, not speaking for the other scribes:
?
?
?
Probably
?
Hope not.
I doubt Tony would let us have it.
?
And
?

Seriously, At worst, I think it'll be a certain edition for each that we'll be able to gather Page/Line/Word/Letter type answers to clues from.
But that is, of course, just a guess (Like we don't have enough of those floating around.).
It'd be cool if there was a specific tome with some futuristic exposition or something written in the margin, but that stretches the "trust" directive a lot.

OR...it could be a certain copy of the book that has a clue hidden within it. We would then have to find the book....and the clue.....to move on to the next.

This would either require a lot of footwork for our UK friends....or a lot of footwork for Islington(should he choose to hide the books in the various participating countries).

Would be kinda fun if our Islington is indeed a globetrotter as well as a timetrotter. Wink

All ya'll are doing a great job.....I have the most fun watching everyone play off each others research. It is such a feeling of group accomplishment when the needle is pulled from the haystack of information gathered.

I will be a wee bit scarce for the next few....the real world has me a bit overwhelmed timewise right now. Sad

Keep up the good work....

Play nice. Razz

Carry on...

I'm of the opinion that our dear friend Islington is a globetrotter (not the basketball kind, however Wink)

If you remember this from the Wikipedia link on the 13Books site:

"The 13 books were discovered all over the world, in a variety of different ways, from London to India to America and beyond."

So for those of us who can't just hop across the pond for a romp in London, I think we'll all have the chance for a go. But what about the India one? I don't recall anyone thus far being located in India. Hmm . . .

[quote="Law of Five"]I've got a couple of questions for the Scribes. I'm not a Scribe, I didn't ask to be one, I don't want to be one (just don't have the time to spend), but I'm still curious: {/quote]

1. Are any of you in direct contact with Islington and receiving messages from him which are behind the curtain? Has he been in mail or phone contact yet?

I'm not neccesarily in direct contact with him but i have received an email and he seems to like my quotes *points to her scribe page*

2. Do you still consider yourself players in the 'game' or have you been selected more as a sort of PM-helpers?

I think we were selected as guides of a sort.

3. Is the game really being played between Islington and the 13 scribes with the rest of us looking on?

No everyone is involved

4. Will the real Raeden please stand up?

check Lazy Laces

5. What really happened to OnionRing, Dixon and Cenyon? Is a purge of the scribes?

no they just happen to have real lifes unlike the rest of us (though my internet was out yesterday and i'm posting this from class)

6 What are we getting ourselves into?

Hopefully a nice ride.

edit: also i don't think it's the books themselves so much as the ideas in them. as long as its not a censored copy any book would do.

1. Nope. Haven't had word one with "The Man, The Myth, The Legend."

2. I consider myself as playing. I don't have time to help out the newcomers as much as the others. I do try and help, but I'm nowhere near as useful as others here.

3. There have been no guidelines set other than the 13 rules.

4. I had all but forgotten this song, and now I hate you. Evil or Very Mad J/K.

5. I think the nature of ARGs will cause the "Main Players" ie. Scribes, to always be in flux.

6. I have a nice job that allows me to be on the net at the same time as I work so unless I'm fired (PLEASE GOD NO!), I'm in it for the long haul.

Also because I've seen this question come up a lot, I don't think any of us here specifically asked to be a scribe. I think it's just Islington's way of saying, look I've seen that you have been posting (a lot) and have taken a real interest in where this is going, so here's a title and a little portion dedicated to you. Wink

I told orkid the day or so before i was made a scribe that i had no chance whatsoever. but apparently islington liked our convo and apparently he likes quoting me on my pages.

It's sad that you guys won't even look at the fact that you might be a little stand-offish to the new people. You defend yourselves without looking at the evidence. (Another example in that Monster Thread...a new member posted that Orkid had updated her LJ, it was ignored, then a few posts later a scribe announced it. How do you think it made that person feel?)

I'm not the first person to comment on how "closed" this game feels. If you look back, you'll see that others have said it as well. And others have posted once, been ignored, and then never posted again.

It's ok if you guys attack me, but I'll say it again...please be nicer to the nOObs...you were one once, too.

yes i admit some of us have a tendancy to be standoffish and i have noticed many occasions where comments were ignored even those made by scribes but not everyone
does this and usually it's not intentional. also i was never a n00b but i was once a newb. please use your terms correctly.

I think that n00bs should just get over it. Who cares about who is who, the people with more experience will get noticed. Yeah, I'm new, but I don't worry about how you people treat me, and I don't care. I know that I am an intelligent person and that is all that matters. And on using terms correctly, who cares. It's stupid worrying about terms when you know exactly what it means. So, quit correcting people. It's childish.
