My 911 call story -

My cellphone starting power cycling continuously early last week. A known defect in the phone. I couldn't get to the dealer until Saturday to have him send it in and get a new one sent out. So Saturday afternoon he gave me a "loaner" phone - like when you take a car in to be serviced- to use for the next few days- and changed the SIM card so i would have the same number.

A few hours later, I was in the elevator going out on Saturday evening(recall they first started making these calls on Wednesday.) I see that I have a message and play it. Reception isn't great in the elevator, but I can usually make out the message.

I hear a very garbled, broken up transmission where I can only recognize a woman's voice sounding upset bordering on hysterical. I wonder if this is about my mother who has been ill. A few beats later, I hear something about 911 and then more bits and pieces about blood.

It took me almost until the end of the message to recall, heart racing, that it was Clara calling about Maurice!
