I know who took our book.
It was:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Andrew Graham Dixon

Well, either him or the butler.

Colonel Custard? In the Library? With a Candlestick?

British Library?

I think I have some understanding of how you must feel...because I just read most of this thread... Confused
But you can't blame him for all your overanalysis, can you?

By the way, since when is "Iz = Tony" a fact?
Any chance you're wrong about this?

So I take it " ZeroGate - 2l8?" means "ZeroGate - too late?" (I should mention I hate leet).

Well, aren't we a ray of sunshine? It would appear you spread your particular brand of sunshine near and far. Exhibit A : http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/search.php?search_author=Abraxas

@Rogi
Uh, sorry. I mean, "Toby", of course.

What exactly is that "exhibit" you are talking about? My entire 155 posts so far? Razz

And what did I say that nobody else has said already? Law - as well as you, if I'm not mistaken - admitted to being a little bit "disappointed" with the clues which seem to lead nowhere. I just echoed that.
Then I asked why you all are so sure that Toby and Islington are the same person, because I didn't catch that anywhere (as I won't read through hundreds of pages).

Where's the problem? Confused
(I guess you could PM me if you want to answer as I don't want to clutter up this thread - more than it already is)

Ladies and Gentlemen:

It's natural to blame ourselves and fall to infighting about who pointed out what when

So let's not. There's still a Book to find, even if we're not gonna find it the way we originally thought, and if we don't try to play nice then we're going nowhere. Oh and the Toby=Iz thing is an argument I find convincing myself, but I wouldn't claim it as Gospel truth. Believe what you want to, I always do...

@Law
But you base your whole disappointment on the fact that Toby = Islington. That's why I asked if this is definite or not. Keep in mind I'm barely catching up and now that I read this it's almost telling me "don't bother", assuming Toby isn't just a scribe, but what if he isn't more than that? Would it change something?

I read somewhere that part of the symbol on the envelope that Graeme received lately spells out "2L8". If that's correct...didn't Graeme get this envelope before the live event and shouldn't that mean the "2L8" on the current Book Zero page is something Iz used before, thus it's part of the "plan"?
And wouldn't that suggest that it does not refer to being "too late for the book", but something else? In other words: this was planned from the start
Now, I'm not that naive to think this must be the case, but it's possible, isn't it?

Looking at Yann's scribe page:

Good Thinking
Trees need Books too

Pratchetty? Good!
Ixliton

If Book Zero is at the library and isn't at the lost and found desk, perhaps it's been shelved with Terry Pratchet's books?

Just read the previous reply again, carefully. Wink

To all:
I have to add that I took it that you think that "2L8" refers to Book Zero. It's probably a trademark of Islington I have missed (didn't check back on the pre-game stuff). If you didn't, then I just made a wrong assumption for a change (Wink to MountainGirl).

Terry Pratchett is a Sci-Fi author. Pratchetty=Pratchett? We are just quessing...but it makes sense.

As far as it being shelved: if the Librarians there are anything like our Librarian(fondly referred to as the Library Nazi).....I hope not. The book would either be in the trash or filed away in some obscure category that only makes sense to the Librarian. Wink

I am guessing that our next 'clue' is going to come in the form of Graeme's scribe page.

Shall wait and see.

Curiouser and curiouser.....

Confuseder and confuseder?

Wink

A close reading of today's posts will reveal that I base most of my objections to the fact that most of the clues we all laboured over had nothing to do with the location of Book Zero. My contention that Iz=Toby is merely another brick in the wall, but I think there are strong hints in his chat with Raeden (and in many other places) that this is the case. OrKid is also an unreliable narrator, in my opinion, but still a useful source to be considered. Your own mileage may vary, and that's fine. I don't particularly mind if Iz=Toby or Iz[is not equal to]Toby, but I think it's fair to hope that our PM learns from this experience and pulls his socks up.

Re: the 2L8 thing - Islington's signature is an ornate F with an infinity symbol beneath the crossbar of the F. The top bar of the F is scrolled and turns upwards. He's been using it for a while in this form. He sent the same thing to Graeme this weekend, and it was only when Graeme posted it sideways that we saw it looks a lot like 2 L 8 (i.e too late):

This is either an pure coincidence (are there any of those?) or a clue we have been missing for WEEKS.

I hope that Book Zero hasn't been inserted into the stacks at the British Library, as that's disrespectful of the Library itself and also 'cos it's a great way to lose a book forever. If it's not secured, someone else is likely to move it and then it's gone forever. They have a filing system for a reason, you know. So hopefully it's not sitting beside 'Mort', but it's somewhere secure...

Oh, and one more thing: before the Book Zero page vanished, point 1 was:

solid ID (address and photo)

We've established you don't need photo ID to join the British Library, so why would you need a photo to retrieve Book Zero? It's either another layer of complexity or yet another little mistake on the part of the PM. I'm hoping for one but I'm thinking of the other.

Just my tuppence-ha'penny, guv'nor

Law of Five

EDIT: Ah, Incog, I knew we would agree on something eventually today.. (= Libraries are hallowed ground... Peace, love and understanding, sweetie...

ooooh i did not see the pratchetty part.

but i just went to his site (http://www.terrypratchettbooks.com/) and realised that he wrote one of my favorite books as a kid (and kinda now too...) its called the amazing maurice and his educated rodents (which is kind of a spin off of the pied piper story Question probably nothing though) ANYWAYS all/most of his stories take place in this magical world called discworld. he has little mini-series that all take place there with all kinds of different characters. its great for little kids *coughistillreaditcough* ANNNYYYWAAAYYS go to his website to learn more about it.
