I'm with the JavaKnight on this one. It was the "it figures" that really jumped out at me.

When Maurice was at the poker table last night, I was really trying to get someone at the table to ask him about the events in Paraguay. Between the "it figures", the implied suggestion that the man in Paraguay could have been a Nazi officer or concentration camp guard and the statement that Kerry looked like a perfect Nazi makes me think Kerry is a direct descendent of the man in Paraguay and will share the same last name.

I disagree. If he was a descendent then this would have been revenge. So Kerry would have most likely gone after Maurice first. But allegedly, he has already killed 5 gang members including Ruben, and Paco Cisneros. And he also killed Vic Aldridge. So when it came time for him to kill Maurice, don't you think he would have wanted to kill this man whom he sought revenge against by looking him in the eyes as he died? But he still tried the same old "canoe" trick to get him to look away. I think Maurice died because he was an arms dealer, or maybe because Kerry found out about his executions, but I'm not so sure there is any more of a connection here.

I zero'd in on "it figures" because it gives us more hints into Maurice's character. I don't think the connection is as strong as you're thinking KermieD, but its definitely not coincidence that Maurice thought it was rather ironic that his killer had those physical traits.

I don't know that Kerry knows the connection. Being in an area that has a very concentrated German-American population, I can tell you with certainty that during both world wars, there were serious attempts to hide anything relating to German culture. Our next door neighbor would always regale us with stories about how they'd rename their traditional dishes. Sauerkraut became "Liberty Cabbage", etc. My best friend's last name is Greening. His grandparents were born Gröenig. Even if Kerry is the grandson of the Paraguayan prisoner, I don't think he knows he killed his grandfather's killer.

Maurice noticed right off the bat that Kerry was the Aryan stereotype. I personally got the impression that the "it figures" was in direct response to finally taking a good look into Kerry's eyes and seeing something he recognized there. Maurice even made a couple of cryptic remarks at the poker table last night when his murder got brought up about how he thought he still came out slightly ahead.

Sorry. I wasn't recording. I might have clicked on a hand or 2, but there were so many names I recognized as hardcore ARGNites (is there a common nick for ARGN people?) that I thought someone else would have something posted as soon as the tourney was over.
