9 out of 10 "bookstores" on Abebooks and Amazon are virtual...as in they do not have a storefront. It's just people selling and shipping books to whomever buys it online. For $25 a month, any shmoo can do it...even me.
What happens on a regular basis is that the "bookstore" (ie. person with a garage full of books) realizes how much work is involved and just quits. This person just probably gave up and cancelled all sales.
Just to let you know, all sale information (credit cards, bank info...) goes to Abebooks, not the actual seller. Abebooks takes it's commission and sends the rest to the bookseller - so your private info is secure.
Don't worry. It's a pretty common occurence. Also, information on the bookseller is verified by Abebooks when someone first sets up an account, so I doubt this was a setup for the game.
Sorry you didn't get your book.

Actually, I think that it is Theory 2. But, I also think that it is entirely possible that the book was purchased before ShyShdy clicked.....and purchased by a Triskalurker(someone who did so but has not shared that fact with the rest of us).
The reason I think this....if you go to Abebooks.com....you can have multiple copies of 'A A I W' for $1. Why pay almost 4 unless you were somehow directed to that particular site/seller. Why else would someone be directed to that site/seller unless they were through Shy's scribe page?
We must remember....that for every person posting about Triskabiblios...there are probably a dozen just watching it all unfold. These persons are aware of all the things that we are. Which, is kinda a bad thing. What if one of them had been the one to meet Toby yesterday? We would never have heard what they got from the man with the Triangla!
Sheesh.
I hate being paranoid.
Curiouser and curiouser....

Sorry that your purchase is no more, ShyShdy. I'd help but my copy is 5,000 + miles away. Maybe someone else can help in the Triska-biblo-Book-Swap?
Feel the love

Heh...oh yeah....
This is again showing my age....but...
If, indeed, the original bookstore was in Oregon....
Do any of you remember the early computer game 'Oregon Trail'?
The Oregon Trail is real in the historic sense as well.
So, if in Oregon....an email address of 'onthetrail' would seem to be quite normal.
Edit: OOPS!! Sorry Shy and Orkid...I guess (as far as the scribe page mix-up goes) you can I was Triskadiscombobulated!

Shyshdy, I have a copy of the Penguin Complete Lewis Carrol, which includes Alice in Wonderland and through the Looking Glass. Although it isn't in that great a condition, it is completely readable. If the abebooks order turns out to be a simple case of being too late when you ordered it and doesn't lead to some other clue, I'll send the copy to you. If you're interested let me know and we can figure out the logistics of how we exchange info.
I've never done this before through a forum so forgive my ignorance if there is a standard procedure.

There is nothing standard about Triskabiblios!
I think that it is wonderful that you are willing to send the book Bootsy.
If you do receive it, Shyshdy, don't forget to let us know here!
I, for one, am looking forward to hearing of more shared books.
Carry on....

I was gonna go buy it just to read it, but if u wanna send it u can, I promise to return it or forward it on if u want. I guess sharing the books goes with the whole theme of the game no? lol. anyways, pm me and we'll discuss. thanks!
