OK, so what happens if Violet then doesn't get a reply to her innocuous 'keymail'. She'll go running to her daddy, which leaves us in somewhat of a pickle n'est-ce pas?

I have been considering the possibility of Violet not recieving an answer from Scarlett's key. But didn't Violet or her dad know that she was out of town in some sort of hiking trip to Tanraga? I thought that the only thing she DIDN'T TELL them is that she was looking for a town called Vienderbourg... but I could be wrong. Could anyone confirm this?

If Violet doesn't get an answer from her key, I guess she is smart enough to give a call to the Tanraga medical facilities. I don't think that a world with advanced AIs, an architectural marvel like Ascendancy Point and a widespread predominance of keys, don't have a directory to contact people or institutions. She can contact them, and ask for a girl with Scarlett's physical description.

Otherwise, if there is no response, she would definitely have to worry (if I had a little brother or sister who went to an unknown place, and didn't get any news of him after a long time, I have the right to know what happened to him).

EDIT: Wolferine Fan noticed my mistake. I stand corrected.

She didn't tell anyone about Viendenbourg until Allain/TOM showed up and mentioned it first.

I wouldn't be shocked if Sente has heard of it before, but if he knew that's where she was headed I suspect he would have never let her go on the hiking trip.

I'm not sure about the effectiveness of a poll in this matter. How will it help us? After all, if it ends up being a disastrous decision, at least it will be a democratically elected disaster.

Anyway, the way the poll is structured tells me that the NOBODY option will have more votes. The people who support that we tell somebody about Scarlett's condition will be divided. Divide and conquer, remember?

Wolverine Fan, I know she didn't mention anyone about Viendenbourg, but she must have told her family that she was heading to Tanraga.

Hey! Just want to let you all know that I'm off on vacation tonight! I'm going on a six-week train/hiking trip to the Tanraga mountain region with my friends Margot and Sanj and my boyfriend Brede Very Happy. <snip>

Just before I go though, I promised my dad I'd let you all know about this puzzle. <snip>

And this piece of info tells me that Sente knew about her trip.

EDIT: Removed some unnecessary text in the quotes.

Unless I'm misreading (which happens all too often) you said:

Which I took to mean you thought she had told them about the town she was looking for. Sorry if I'm reading that wrong.

As far as the trip goes, yes, her family definitely knew she was going hiking. They had a few dinners together before she left. They didn't know about her side-trip was my only point Smile

You are right, WolverineFan, I guess I got distracted when I wrote that part. It should read "the only thing she DIDN'T tell them...". I edited my post. Thanks for letting me know.

Certainly the Kiteway family would have known of Scarlett's trip into the wild outdoors. It may be that this whole thread is a waste of breath as Scarlett may well have been in regular contact with her family while away anyway. (Certainly it would not be unusual to insist that a young woman travelling with a group of friends 'call in' every so often.)

This may mean that the family already know something is amiss? Equally, it may also be that Scarlett has also sent word to her dad or sister about her current situation. It would be very strange that she contacted us but NOT her family??

Also, what of her travelling companions too? If they were also effected in some way would they have not gotten word home and let everyone know what was afoot? (assuming they are in a state to contact home, of course. Confused )

I still say we hold off and wait to see what develops. Rushing in and betraying Scarlett's trust just seems to be the wrong thing to do.

If we do tell one of her family, and she gets upset with us, we could always just post her back her last correspondence and ask her what she would have done if Bede or Violet had sent her a message like that.

Hi All,

Please excuse me (and my spelling!!) as I've only just come to the game and I'm an ARG V.
I've been reading the thread and I dont think its a good idea to grass Scarlett.

Everyone knows shes away. Shes also with friends. If her family aren't worried, why should we be? If they haven't heard from her and can't get an answer from her key or whateva, surely they'll have the nouse to try contact her other friends..? If all signals are down, that will definatley trigger worry for themselves? I'm unsure how close her family are but the farewell dinner (just because she's going on holiday) suggests they're pretty tight.

I think if we start e-mailing willy nilly to evryone everytime somethings amis, we're putting ourselves inline for critic about the increased communication between perplex city and us. (if they mean us.. that is)

Just my thought

Here's an idea that hasn't been posted yet. Perhaps we can send an email to Violet *FROM* Scarlet at her website address. There are plenty of anonymous mailer programs that are capable of this. In fact, I think I remember reading that google's email can do this now, however, how anonymous it is, I don't know... If we send an email saying something about being in the hospital, but I'm okay, that would certainly merit a response email from Violet... And if anything important was happening, she would probably post it on her website, or we could email her asking about Scarlet shortly afterwards and not have to wait for a response. Just an idea...

I believe we let everyone know. If Scarlett has had some kind of bug(and it seems that the "bad guys" know so much) that letting others know would get more attention to that area. Her friends didn't seem to help much(they might not even been able) that letting her family know might be the best bet. Just my ramblings with a few beers though

Good Morrow.

In an earlier post, WolverineFan mentioned that one cause for concern was the period of several days which has elapsed since Scarlett's last message. Given, however, that her communication has always been somewhat sporadic in nature, it seems to me that this in itself is not a cause for alarm.
Another suggestion made by neophoenix was that her family would, if concerned for any reason about Scarlett's well-being, contact the Tanraga facility at which she is being held. There is, in my limited perception, one important fallacy with this assumption, as the Tanraga region is very remote, partially uncharted, and was assumed to be completely devoid of civilization until Allain or his alter-ego hinted otherwise. Thus, it may be assumed that any sort of installation there, military or otherwise, would be absolutely top-secret and, for obvious reasons, unlisted in the local phonebook.
I may, of course, be completely wrong... Sad
Good Day!

Ok, im back again. I voted forviolet in the poll, but i see that telling nobody is winning. Personally, i think that asking violet to check if her sister is ok is not betraying scarlett. Scarlett said "Please don't tell anyone else what I've told you", so we won't. If Scarlet replies, then at least we know that she is alive, and well enough to reply. A simple,
"Hi Violet, I am having a little difficulty contacting you're sister at the moment, can you just check via keymail (still using that word!) that she's fine, and her key is receiving e-mails properly?"
is not betraying scarlet, and is not sending Violet to a hideous and violent death. And is Violet doesn't get a reply, we know there is cause for alarm.
Violet wont just run into the hills unaided, she would check with the hospital (if there's a hospital).
