[POKER] Game #2 w/ Vic (08-Oct-05)

Unfortunately, nobody seems to have recorded this game. However, I can retell the interaction that led to the unlock. These aren't direct quotes, just the best of my memory of what went down.

I came to the table around 4:05 EST. We'd been talking in IRC about the implications of Kerry working for Don MacPherson, and his writing a letter to Corazon. As far as I can recall, I came in to multiple questions being asked of Vic, but he hadn't committed to a specific line of thought yet. I asked:

Quote:
SuperJerms: So vic, why do you think Kerry killed you: because he was hired or because he likes her?

(He didn't answer the question, but he might not have heard me since I was spectating. I got a seat two hands later, so I was seated by the time others had asked about Kerry and about Vic's porn vids, to which he replied:)

Quote:
victorsimkoaldridge: ...but that Tucker guy is a psycho.
victorsimkoaldridge: Man...I'd like to do a film on him.
victorsimkoaldridge: That would be a really interesting documentary.
victorsimkoaldridge: The guy's crazy. I could just set up a camera on him and roll.
SuperJerms: something like A Thin Blue Line?
SuperJerms: Kinda in the style of Errol Morris?
victorsimkoaldridge: Exactly, SJ! A Thin Blue Line was a great movie!
SuperJerms: Morris is the greatest documentary maker alive today. I'm sure you'd be just like him.
SuperJerms: Did you ever see Mr. Death or Fog of War?
victorsimkoaldridge: FOG OF WAR is my favorite movie!
SuperJerms: Yeah! I saw it not too long ago. It was really powerful.

(A pop-up informs us of the new update to Kerry Tucker's profile. Vic basically says he's psyched to be reminded of his favorite movie and logs off.)

And how did we come up with that? Vic mentioned morris just before Terry killed him. His flickr account also mentioned him. We talked about that in this thread. Morris is one of the most influential directors in the American New Documentary Movement. His key movie was A Thin Blue Line, where he interviewed an innocent man who was on death row, and the killer that should have been in his place. Fantastic movie. Fog of War was different lessons to be learned from the life of MacNamara, and was Morris' most recent film. It wasn't quite as good as Thin Blue Line, though Razz

EDIT: now that RPG figured out we can recall past games with the game number, I fiddled around and got the actual dialogue.

Quote:
victorsimkoaldridge: Hey!
smile: Hello again Smile
ZaZen: aye vic
victorsimkoaldridge: God, you guys are so great! Thanks so much! Im so psyched.
Ehsan: You should be.. it's a cool hat!
catherwood: ooo, more handsome men
txtigerman: Afternoon.
victorsimkoaldridge: Like one cool picture a day, okay?
rose: sure
smile: sounds good Vic
ZaZen: no prob
rose: hey victor did you know Kerry from before?
victorsimkoaldridge: So are you guys keeping an eye on Corazon?
rose: yes
ZaZen: yea
txtigerman: It's hard not to.
rose: she is really great
victorsimkoaldridge: Nah, never saw the dude before that day.
rose: she really used that Glock you gave her rose: but she and her mom have been arguing a bit
victorsimkoaldridge: I didn't give her the Glock,
victorsimkoaldridge: ne of her crazy brothers gave it to her.

xtigerman: So, where di the Glock come from then?
Ehsan: We told you she got the key right..
rose: I thought she said you did
smile: then why would Kerry be writing letters to her?
victorsimkoaldridge: Nah, not me. Kerry is writing her letters.
rose: she misses you
victorsimkoaldridge: What the hell?!
txtigerman: What's lost in that parking lot?
victorsimkoaldridge: I never should have given him that key. It was stupid.
rose: he gave it to her
Ehsan: But she got it
smile: his hat dude Smile
victorsimkoaldridge: Tigerman, what parking lot?
txtigerman: Ah.
rose: what is in the safety deposit box?
victorsimkoaldridge: They found that.
rose: I mean that the key is for
rose: oops
txtigerman: Well, great.
rose: hehhe!!
victorsimkoaldridge: Stuff I want for her.
smile: you can tell us right? Smile
rose: Victor: i just learned to play poker last week!
Ehsan: She doesn't know what happened to you
txtigerman: If it's just negatives and things why the attachment? Why pay for a safe deposit?
victorsimkoaldridge: No, it's not mine anymore. It's hers. Look, it's not about me anymore.
smile: its about her?
rose: so what can we do?
victorsimkoaldridge: But that Tucker dude, is he psycho!
rose: he killed his stepfather
SuperJerms: why do you think he killed you, vic?
txtigerman: He likes to fish. He can't be all bad. I fish myself.
victorsimkoaldridge: No shit!
Ehsan: Yeah he is.. he likes guns
victorsimkoaldridge: Man I'd like to do a doc on him.
rose: and that cop let him get away with it
victorsimkoaldridge: Wouldn't he be a great subject?
Ehsan: I can tell you all about him
rose: Don McPherson
catherwood: "do a doc"? not in my lingo
smile: Yeah Smile
smile: Documentary
catherwood: oh documentary
Nos: Yeah, he would
rose: a film
victorsimkoaldridge: Some cop let him do it?
rose: the cop has been putting him up to it
rose: he has killed a bunch of people
victorsimkoaldridge: Jeez, put him in a chair and just let the camera roll.
rose: Kerry
victorsimkoaldridge: Except he never talks much, does he.
rose: he was abused as a kid
SuperJerms: like a thin blue line?
txtigerman: Nothing beats a good tequila.
rose: he stuttered
Ehsan: Doesn't talk.. just writes
victorsimkoaldridge: Yeah! Like A Thin Blue Line.
Ehsan: His uncle did him bad..

txtigerman: Now THAT's something to do a doc on.
victorsimkoaldridge: FOG OF WAR! SuperJerms, I LOVE THAT FILM!

poker with vic

That was good work.

What I think: we missed this one in the earlier playing poker game. He let us take a break to figure it out. It is possible we missed it the week before.

What I learned. We are only unlocking things - not probing for new information. We need to listen to what the character brings up and focus in on that! ( it seems so simple now, but hard to do when your brain is loaded with ideas!) I thought that the break was to give us time to find the new information and come back to ask new questions. As it turns out, the break was because we were on the wrong track. The answer was based on information that we had last week! Not the new stuff that came out in between

To unlock anything, we have to give a very specific answer. Our mention of Errol Morris and The Thin Blue Line were not exact enough. Victor needed us (thanks again SuperJerms!) to say Fog of War.

Other things that were confirmed in the chat:
Victor is no longer the story.
We need to keep an eye on Corazon.
He didn't know Kerry before he killed him.
He regrets giving Kerry a key.
Victor didn't know that McPherson is behind Kerry's killings.

PS. I was totally obnoxious about my winning two hands of poker in the Monster room while chatting with a character and racking my brain for ideas of what to say!

However ,those of you who have played poker with me the first week, like bagsbee and dorkmaster, when I had no idea even the order of the hands or what pocket cards meant, will know where I was coming from. Most of the other players in the game weren't chatting in the #lastcall chat room (Where were they? One wonders.) So I couldn't tell if they were just letting me win or not trying. Anyway, I was happy about it. I even mentioned it to Victor, but he didn't care. Smile
