New Mu_nin e-mail: Pereant, inquit...

From : "Spock Vulture" <mu_nin@hotmail.com>
To : pompous_psychoSPLAThotmail.com
Subject : Pereant, inquit, qui ante nos nostra dixerunt.
Date : Mon, 12 May 2003 23:38:38 +0000

I received a missive from the boss. It seems a little bird has brought word to him that I've been, shall we say, less respectful than befits one of your station. I told him not to have a cow, that you're not in your Aspect, but he's not buying. He's upset that I haven't found you yet. He heard that I've been poling around the Grand Canal for the past few weeks. I can't help it, I miss my boat.

He really wants you back. He's having problems with his computer again, and now his AWOL Instant Messenger has disappeared. You were the only one of us that ever understood this newfangled technology.

So I beseech you.... Find Your Humble Servant.

The Latin quote

Googling reveals:

"Pereant, inquit, qui ante nos nostra dixerunt."

means 'Confound those who have said our remarks before us.'

quote by Aelius Donatus, a Roman grammarian and teacher of rhetoric (c. 356)

Aelius Donatus (fl. 350) was a teacher of grammar and rhetoric. In the middle ages, he was probably best known as the author of a standard textbook; by the fourteenth century, his name had become a synonym for "grammar."

Who is Spock Vulture?

I don't know that it is helping with anything other than lending the game a theme (it's not solving puzzles)...
but 'Spock Vulture' seems to be going out of their way to cast themselves as Charon, the ferryman of the dead over the river Styx (Acheron) in greek myth - boat, poling, and coin (to pay the ferryman - password clue for him?) references abound with him.
If Ewan represents the 'psychopomp' role of say, Hermes when in 'aspect' then who is the 'boss'? Hades, Zeus, ?
