[Trailhead?] Giants in our midst I found this from Snopes:
http://www.snopes.com/photos/tsunami/colossus.asp
http://giantology.typepad.com/
And intriguing video:

ARG? Viral marketing?

looks like the original post was made on the 6th...
here
some people are thinking it may be VR for the NBC show 'Surface' due to similarities between the skeleton and something on the show. Not having seen the show myself I can't comment on that.

Having seen the show... it's possible that it could be like the one from Surface. Also, the domain for the site from which the pictures came from shows a "Last Modified" date of September 26th.
P.S. Another interesting thing is that the email used for registration seems to be a Hushmail account, namely deepdivescubaSPLAT hush.com

Its been posted on various giant fandom boards over the last few days. (they beat you to it) But given how it was marketed (reportedly on Yahoo first), I'm not shocked.
With Surface, Shadow of the colossus, and even Black and White 2 coming out, there is a considerible amount of giant parafanilia in Q4.
So far, it looks like a blog with some potential.

I've started reading it from the beginning, just out of no recent developments in the other ARGs I'm in.

Love me some Snopes. (Except for those infernal popups)
If this is a game (as opposed to viral marketing), then it's a damned cool way to launch.
Damned cool.

It sucked me in against my will. During the second episode my husband walked in the room and asked why I was watching it because it looked lame. He's now also sucked in I would say it isn't as good as Lost, but not as bad as Invasion.

If Surface 's storyline takes place currently (fall 2005), then shouldn't the characters on the show see this news report at some point themselves? (unless its an "expanded universe" type storyline)

Easy enough to backdate entries.

I'm calling the blog site real. Just a blog from someone who likes things "giant".
As for the video, it's totally fake. You can really tell it's digitally altered when it shows the helicopter view.
Viral for Surface? It's possible. Maybe we'll find out next week. I've been watching this since episode two.
Now, as far as http://www.divethedeepscuba.com.au is concerned:
- No address
- They put the fish fin pic in the "Photo Gallery" section along with what look like professional diver photos. The fish fin / head photos are very muddy and dark.
- Only contact is via email
This has more of "ARG" or something out of the ordinary written on it to me.

Just to stay factual with the TV show, the 'creature' on Surface was clocked at 160 mph in last week's episode.
