The giantology blog updated for a second time today. It's almost entirely links, but I'll post it as text anyway.

Quote:

Background info on Siberian Ice Giant
Some background info on the Siberian Ice Giant:

Rapid climate change is lowering the ice cap.
More bad news about the ice caps.
But melting the ice caps can be fun.
How does oil get made?
Info about Franz Josef Land.
Vacation in sunny FJL.
After your cruise, hop on a train.
Tourists could visit the Ice Giant, but what's the environmental impact?
Some photos of Siberia.
Science expeditions in FJL.
Frozen mammoth on display.

I don't have time to add the links here, sorry.

I'm curious: why are you guys so convinced this is a trailhead? There appears to be no significant hook plotwise, and not even the hint of any puzzles. Do ARGs usually take a good long while to get going?

We get a feel for these sorts of things.

A good hint is when J. Random Blogger says "Oh, wow, tons of people want to help me with my problem! This is totally okay with me, in fact, I will rely on all of you strangers to help."

And there seems to be some plot to it, albeit a very slow developing one. Besides, as far as I understand ARG... It's not a game...... so no rules either. Wink

And if we are dealing with a real life disappearance, wouldnt it be great to solve it thinking it an ARG?

This has *all* the signs of a trailhead:

1) A website about something "amazing" suddenly appears out of nowhere.

2) An email is sent to the website asking for more information.

3) A *huge* response is returned detailing a cover-up consipiracy, site hacking, and requesting to "get the information out to everyone".

4) The owner of website has now gone "into hiding".

If this isn't a trailhead, then it's real. And if this is real, well.... It's even *more* than a trailhead, right?

giantology...

I tried sending an email to the author of giantology with no luck of a reply.....seriously....too many reports are coming in that this is a marketing ploy for the game to be released on Playstation....but im kinda clinging on to a bit of hope that it isnt!!!

Any new notes or updates?

So? Probably is. Al sighns point that way. Still doesn't mean its not an ARG and a lot of fun right?

Just in response to the idea that this is a viral campaign designed to whip up interest in the game before its release - from IGN:

Game: Shadow of Colossus
Published by: Sony Computer Entertainment
Developed by: SCEI
Genre: Third-Person Adventure
Number of Players: 1
Release Date:
US: October 18, 2005
Japan: October 27, 2005
Europe: October 27, 2005

So the game's been out for over a week in Europe and Japan, and almost 3 weeks in the USA. Is the timing typical of a viral campaign? Should it continue after the game's release without any declaration of the connection? Or is the campaign aimed at boosting sales in the run-up to Christmas? Is it possible that the link between the 'Giants-sites' and the game will never be declared? Is this normal practice in viral marketing?

Cheers

For the record, I have the game (SotC), and after looking at the various photos (mainly of the ice giant and the underwater giant) I am 99% positive that they are taken from the giants in the game.

I too, however, am puzzled by the timing of the campaign. Frankly I'm inclined to believe that the marketing company hired by Sony is just incompetent.
