 wecanrebuildhim.org - any ideas?

Hi all

I've had wecanrebuildhim.org on watchthatpage for a while now. This saturday, it updated with a new message:

Quote:

We've been hiding in an industrial complex on the Dublin Road... 3 months now. I know you tried to get it touch with us around Christmas, it was too dangerous.

We're sorry about Daniel. He was a good man. We shouldn't dwell, now is a time of action.

I'm risking all our lives by uploading this file. Find a man called Silvio Meier in Zurich, he created the encoder. You need to find him before it's too late.

We can't trust anyone else now.

The word "file" is linked to "001.mp3". This is a computer-generated reading of a series of numbers.

As per the website text, Googling "Silvio Meier Zurich" brings us to the following page, which includes a Java-based number-to-speech converter:
http://www.ifi.unizh.ch/rerg/people/assitant_1/silvio_meier/sources_code/alphanumeric_to_numeric_encoding/

Plugging in the numbers from the mp3 file and converting to alphanumeric gives us the following string:

FAUSTCONOR AT GMAIL DOT COM

No response from that address so far.

I've no idea what's going on, if anything. The mp3 thing just seemed pretty ARG-y so thought you lot would be interested.

I can find sites referencing it from Oct 14th - no updates for 4 months and then this?

Just got a reply from the email address

a straightforward request

You were right to trust Meier. People have called him a ruthless mathematician, but he's like a brother to me. Zurich is still on the radar, as far as we are concerned. We cannot lose Dundalk to these things.

Sounds interesting - not sure where we go from here

EDIT: added the title of the email

I'm curious to know how you found and why you are watching that web site in the first place.

I tried the number in the title of the page (393872134) in the translator but all that came out was gibberish (ZRTQM). Could it possibly be an Irish phone number?

I was wondering if the title of the e-mail is a clue that I should forward the email on to someone - Silvio Meier perhaps. Not sure if his website is IG or not though.

Also there was another e-mail address in the To field but I don't want to put it on here in case it is another of the players.

It was linked to in a "WTF is this?" post on Graham Linehan's LJ a week or so ago: http://users.livejournal.com/tao_/110814.html . People, including Graham, were quick to dismiss it but I stuck it in watchthispage just in case.

ok ... so I emailed Conor back asking what I should do and I got the following reply.

Quote:
No, leave Meier out of this. Steak or chicken?

Hi Conor,

Is there anything I can do to help? Should I e-mail Meier ?

Don't think so - Eire is +353. +39 is Italy.

Conor, what are "these things" and what can we do to help?

Also, can you tell me: what is the significance of the number 393872134?

We don't know what they are yet. We don't have the enough data yet. They've infiltrated the police and the army so far. Dundalk has been cut off. I think my friends are still alive. They're the good on{*** error.truncate(this) ***}

I emailed Conor asking what I can do to help and what happened to Daniel. Here is his response:

Quote:
I'm so glad you found me, Jacob. Are you willing to take the next step?

Daniel was killed. We don't know who did it.

I think Zurich may have been compromised. What do you think?

My friends in Ireland are in serious trouble, Jacob. I don't know what to do.

We'll talk on the phone soon. It's too dangerous at the moment.

I responded by asking if there was someone in Zurich I should contact and asked how else I might contact him when it is safe (I'm hoping for a phone number...although I'm in the US so I think I'd have to call internationally. bah.)

I can call out of country numbers if need be.
