More layers to this.. email coming from a gmail account (a la Ilovebees)... have a feeling this will end up as a possible opportunity to see the 360 early (maybe US origen?)

You are the chosen few. There have been more than thousands who we have contacted from across the globe, but as is so common amongst humans, we have been merely scoffed at.

As I'm sure you can understand, this is no scoffing matter!

We are not in a position to reveal more details at this point, but know that this is real, and this is far beyond any mere 'origens'

This is also something that not a single person, as far as we have investigated, has figured. This is the begining of something unheard of.

If you have the will, spread the word. There are only three days left. We have not been able to reach the community from official addresses, as that undermines our intentions, but we are sure you can understand that. Another note, we noticed some of you posting copies of our past emails on different message boards across the web, but we would appreciate it if you would keep it to paraphrasing. Bring what you have learned to your peers, but know that they will not immediately accept you. This is to be expected. We do not owe anything to anyone who disregards the warnings in this e-mail. Thankyou.

midas, where'd you see that e-mail?

Also, it feels sort of weird to me that 42 would come out and say "hey guys, here's our new game"...

Well til we get a dedicated forum to discuss this, let's use this thread to get going.

http://thebeginningisnigh.com = http://hex168.com

HEX ALERT: E-SEER PREFERS YETIS! = FREE THREESIXTY PRE-RELEASES!

Free ThreeSixty Prereleases

Some intersting tidbits I've stubled across

Re the Hex168 site - this Lutz fellow says he lives in a Bunker Complex. Microsoft is based out of Washington. There is a Bunker, Washington.

Area Code for Bunker, WA: 360

He also says he's miles under the Saskatchewan crust. Saskatchewan Area Code: 306.

Coinkidink?

Not sure is this is just a coincidence or not especially since any kind of numeralogical combinations should be in military time rather than standard BUT, The numbers at the end of the countdown (10/18 at 2PM) when multiplied (10x18x2 = 360)

Maybe something to think about...

Guys, come on... focus on this one. This guy seems to have just spelled part of it out for us because we weren't getting it, I guess.

"Hex alert: e-seer prefers yetis" is the anagram for "free pre-release threesixty". Look at the letters. It works out.

So it's now quite obvious that it's a contest for getting a free pre-release 360, especially when you couple that with the whole bit about "reward them with a physical manifestation of the power of Hex 168". "Hex 168" has been shown to mean 360 (in decimal), so once again they are saying they will be giving out some 360's.

But I guess I don't understand what he is saying about "The 'of' of the Anagram is not a match." Is there another anagram on that page? Is the whole heading "Hello. This is Dr. Jason Q. Lutz from my bunker complex miles below the crust of Saskatchewan.", yet another complete anagram? I think he is perhaps saying to simply exclude the "of" from that heading and start re-arranging letters. Unfortunately, I stink at anagrams. One thing I quickly note, that phrase has no 'y' in it to once again form the words "threesixty". So maybe it isn't another anagram, or it just says something completely different.

It is strange but Gamespot is very clear about it. So, unless someone spoofed 4orty2wo in the email... still, it is strange especially since 4orty2wo has been implicated in LCP and it would seem unlikely that they'd run two simultaneous projects. Of course, this project could be along the lines of ourcolony and xbox360origen - and be nowhere near the level of LCP.

Huh - that anagram unraveling is interesting. Lots of letters tho. Interesting.

Where are these other images coming from? Were they emailed directly to IGN? Without confirmation from Lutz, can these be believed?

I'd suggest not including them here til we can get confirmation.

In the spirit of scrambling for meta-clues: the evangelist is on 42nd street...

The xbox360 xanga has the same pics.

Why do all these newer pics have the same watermark on the bottom?

Actually the original pictures have the same watermark as well, just not in the same exact place.

Yep, seems this is 4orty2wo's new game. We need to make a forum for this one I think.

Also, this may be a rumor, but didn't incitatus say that 4orty2wo was hiring Kristen Rutherford again? I did remember incit said that they were going to have a ARG again around this time. Seems he was right Very Happy . Maybe incit will chime in here.

I think you're confusing this with Last Call Poker, which is most definitely 4orty2wo and has Kristen Rutherford in pictures and on phone calls, not to mention having Jane playing poker in graveyards.

Now, I'm not saying this supposed email from 4orty2wo is 100% a fake, but I do know that for the past 4orty2wo outings that key members of the ARG community have gotten the same press releases/annoucements and so far none of them have gotten anything. It's also very uncharacteristic for them to simply come out and go "Hey - our new game is starting and here is the solution to the first puzzle". They are much more likely to hide their affliation inside little in-jokes which community members will pick up on, but that wouldnt detract from the experience for newcomers.

I know that if I was less scrupulous and had a game that I wanted a large audience for, I know that all I had to do was a: make it about a gaming console, b: add a timer and c: hint that it was from 42. Just look at the origin360 hoopla. All that speculation for something that wasn't even a game. Do we really know that this isn't going to end up being similar?

And, by the way, do you really want to believe a posting on a rumor that can't even get the fact straight, or at least double check their stories? Last time I checked, Syracuse & Rutgers were playing today (October 15th) - you know the same day as a huge Tombstone Poker tournament is going on in San Fran, for the "other" 42 game.

Personally, I'm just gonna wait until someone I know and trust receives this supposed announcement so that they can see if this is an actual email, and not something that's been spoofed or faked in some way. These game sites have been wrong before (how many times did we see that 42 was supposedly behind Our Colony?) and I put absolutely no faith behind their investigative reporting.

Kotaku got the same email Gamespot did (they don't mention 4orty2wo).. and it looks like the images were included in the email.

They also mention football games:
Rice U vs Tulsa - not televised as far as I can tell - available online from CSTV

Duke University vs. Georgia Tech (Durham, NC) - televised by ESPNU (3:30 PM)

Syracuse University vs. Rutgers (Syracuse, NY) - ongoing now, televised on MSG (on Directv at least)

Connecticut vs. University of Cincinnati (Cincinnati, OH) - 4pm, can't find televising info - CSTV's gametracker has stats online (probably not useful)

Rowan -

I don't think that the fact that the four football games are today and the poker game is today is very compelling (not that any evidence for is very compelling) - since most likely its an ad placement and not a live event. And both sites reporting the email have the same four football games... don't see how that is bad fact-checking
(Edit: Gamespot has the wrong date: listing Oct 1 as the date for the football games... that is an error of some type Gamespot's or PMs, innocent or not who knows).

I am highly skeptical that 42 would run two serious campaigns at the same time - but coordinating a origen-like website unveiling is basically a flash site and some emails. *chuckle* The only real evidence for 42 is Gamespot saying that is who the email came from... I'm trying to contact the editors at Kotaku to find out if they have the same sender. All meta of course anyway.

I definitely think we should expect something more like ourcolony or xbox360origen here... there just doesn't seem to be any "story" here.

Well, the server is at : 207.97.210.185, I'm going to play with those numbers and see if I can find anythig 'hexing' about them

The server also seems to be baised in New Hampsire off a peer1 server, Godaddy registered. I don't know 42 enough to make a judgement on if they have used either of them before, but hope it helps.

Yeah, this is definitely 42 running this. The IP for this site and the old ilovebees.com IP end up in the same place, both hosted with Rackspace if you do a whois lookup. There's, uh, some additional evidence, but I don't know if it'd be proper for me to discuss that directly.

I'm sorry. I must obviously be doing something wrong because I just don't see how you got that 207.97.210.185 is on the same same server as I Love Bees.

Oh I see, you edited your post right as I was replying. They are both by Rackspace (even though one is in New Hampshire and one is in California). Well that explains it. I'm sure Rackspace only hosts things for 42, right?
