What to do about Scarlett? Someone suggested taking a poll, so let's do that. Those who are in favor of contacting someone mostly agree that we should do so as anonymously as possible and provide just enough info to arouse curiosity. The main question is whether we should contact someone at all, or if we should wait.
Since it's already been a few days, I'm putting a 1 day time limit on the poll. If the result is to contact someone we can figure out what to say later.

Unless the situation changes, and she wants us to tell someone, I say respect her wishes.
/me votes "Tell NO-ONE"

I also voted no-one, but only if she doesn't contact us by the end of the week (late Saturday). If she still hasn't contacted us after a full week, then I think we have a legitimate reason to be worried about her.

Don't know if this poll is well structured. All the people who don't want to let anyone else know about Scarlett's condition will vote NOBODY.
The ones who think that somebody (doesn't matter who) has to know will have their vote divided. Shouldn't we have a yes/no poll, like:
Should we tell someone about Scarlett's situation?: yes or no.
Just a thought, anyone?

I figured it would take too long to do more than one poll. If the consensus is to tell someone, we might as well figure out who at the same time.
I suppose I could have created 2 separate simultaneous polls... One asking IF we should tell someone or not. The other asking, assuming we tell someone, WHO should we tell?
Oh well, hopefully it will be a decisive victory for one of the options, and I didn't mess it up too badly

I see your point, I take back my words, partially at least. We can still take the percentage of all the other options different from NOBODY and add them together to find that we have to tell SOMEBODY. With the same results we can know which of these options is the winner choice.

Or you could just add all the non-Nobody votes and count that as yes.
EDIT: Yeah, what he said. Just got it in two seconds before me.

I voted for Violet, though I still believe the paper would not be a bad idea (because reporters are religious about anonymity, and because Scarlett's injury is unlikely to miss the papers anyway). My vote goes to Violet ONLY if we send a very unsuspicious keymail about our concerns.
My idea of a good message to Violet would be one that doesn't indicate we know anything at all. This allows us to send Violet after her and keep Scarlett's trust at the same time.
However. The biggest problem here is that by sending Violet after her -- as others have mentioned -- we run the risk of getting Violet hurt as well.
... which is why I argued in favor of the Sentinel. Evil Mokey doesn't seem to care about losing an unknown reporter or two.
But I'm going with what I think the majority will want, and I'm hoping we can perfect the message to Violet before we send it.

I voted for Violet, with an anonymous tip-off to her with a very vague message. Kurt would probably be a better idea now, thinking about it, because if Scarlett is being 'monitored' by the baddies, then they'll also be monitoring her family's keys, and her friends family's keys. Kurt doesn't fall into either of those categories so he's unlikely to be monitored.
Telling the Sentinel staff sounds like a good idea, but I'm all for the 'spy' theory. If I was running a big secret illegal cult (No, I'm not actually running one, this is pure spec) I'd have a few contacts in various public institutions, like the Academy, the Sentinel, Bank, housing place-thing, Ascendancy Point, etc. This network of contacts would then 'red flag' any interesting information they find, and relay it via secure channels to me, from which I'd tell another 'agent' to follow it up.
Basically I don't trust the Sentinel and therefore don't think it's such a good idea to email them.

But, Kurt is possibly being monitored by some 'military trace'... I think you discounted that when choosing him as the person to contact.

Oh yeah. Well nobody's actually voted for Kurt yet.

I'm not sure I understand. If someone has bugged Scarlett & Co., then the bad guys already know what's happening. Scarlett's posted it openly on the Internet. For that reason, I don't think a trace is going to make much of a difference. Scarlett hasn't done much to protect herself.

i agree with atrophied, scarlett doesnt want us to tell anyone, i say tell no one. if we still dont hear from her in a couple of days then im guessing that sente and violet will realise she should've been back by now and will get worried by their own volition. no one knows that we know anything except scarlet, who herself told us to tell no one,* so we cant get in trouble for witholding information that could have saved her or owt.
i also find it highly amusing that you lot were all joking about how much everyone would like to see annoying scarlett die on this trip, and now she has a brief mishap and everyone's getting all maternal ;) you're all a bunch of big softies really
rach =)
*unless, and i havent gone back to look at the message myself to confirm/deny my suspicion, could she have been forced to tell us to keep schtum and at the same time have encoded some kind of 'help' message in there, aunt josephine style?

Hey, she only spammed everyone on EARTH, not PPC Besides, that link on her website with all the emails is SUPER hidden. Its not like they show up when you look at her blog archive or anything.
Oh, wait, they do. Oops.
That having been said, I do agree with folks that we don't really want to ADD to her troubles. Just because she hasn't been terribly discreet doesn't mean we don't need to be.
As for monitoring communications, bugs and the like: I suspect that if everyone were bugged we wouldn't be able to communicate very effectively (I'm not a huge fan of the enigma cipher idea for example...).
So hopefully we can communicate securely with our known contacts just through standard email, and the only thing we need to watch out for is telling the WRONG contact.

Yeah, but if something happens to Scarlett who is going to tell us about PPC events and media reports?

That's a good point. It wouldn't be the first time. When her first letter to the editor (or whatever) was posted in the Sentinel, the website for her blog was encoded in the text. Who knows....
