The discoveries of the Jerry Montaverde and Otto Griff player cards are great, but I can't see any explanation. Clue us all in, please?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you click on the "Three Musketeers" photo on Maurice's page, you see the back of the photo, on which he wrote "Me, Brown, Monteverde." We've heard enough about Lucky's friend Jerry that it was a simple matter of trying jerrymonteverde, jeromemonteverde, jeremiahmonmteverde...

And jsailor explained finding Otto here.

I stand corrected. Thanks!

I wasted my 1000th post on a simple apology? For shame, jamesi... for shame.

He was mentioned in the email sent out yesterday which Jamesi posted earlier in this thread : email

email wrote:
He lives in this very expensive loft that's supposed to look like it was transplanted from New York or something. It's honking huge. It's got a doorman. Stan Corbet. An ancient guy they must have dragged out of the La Brea Tar Pits. He can never remember that I live here. He says I'm 'not on the list.' Then William has to call down and say that I am staying with him and it's okay, except William doesn't spend a lot of time sober, as such, and it takes a while for him to get to the door, you know?
But today William finally remembered to email the co-op board or Homeowner's Association or Bureau of Foreign Affairs or whatever, and this morning Stan informed me that I am On The List. He seemed disappointed.

So there are really three Stan Corbets:

  • The really old guy
  • The bald-middle aged guy in the big picture
  • The guy with lots of hair in the old icon

Sheesh, even our avatars have gone back in tim! For some this is a good thing, as they get neat army hats. Though for me..... not so much.

EDIT!: The poker rooms now have now received a new (or old, rather) look, which fits it very nicely.
I love that avatar! it looks like john lovitz! Yeah thats the ticket!

I remember alot of talk about SD meaning suicide in the chat. I just looked it up, and it turns out that the SD was another branch of Hitlers Secret Service, known as the "Sicherheitdienst" headed by Reinhard Heydrich. so thus the hangings were not suicide hangings, but actual hangings by the Sicherheitdienst.

Not sure if this is new information or not. I did a search for the topic here, and couldnt find anything. Also I'm not sure where to post this, so i posted it here.

I'd like to propose some small suggestions for the translation:

Abraxas wrote:
Here's my take on the German text from Otto Griff's page (very well written, by the way):

Mr Griff,
I propose an exchange. For particular reasons, which are none of your concern [or literally and more polite: which are not of your interest], I can't move at liberty. I am willing to pay for credible passport documents [ID]. Furthermore I offer you to acquire [a list of] names and places of residence of the SD officers which are responsible for confiscating items from the opposition in your section/district.
If you agree with this arrangement, please either you - or a confidant of yours - come to the bombed-out post office in vicinity of the cathedral at 2 o'clock on any given afternoon in this week. Please carry with you a white handkerchief as disctinctive mark.

Yours rescpectfully,
a friend.

@Giskard
"West" refers to West Germany. I don't get what you mean with "opposition". Confused
And thanks, "confiscating" was the word I was looking for. "Cathedral"...of course.
As for "credible" I get from dictionary.com on "authentic":
Having a claimed and verifiable origin or authorship; not counterfeit or copied
Enough dribbling over semantics, now. Razz
