[SOLVED] Pherkad and Yildun (October 13, 1945) From the Polaris update, we find the following cipher on the letter.
Code:
QIRKM LTGTT KBWSM
ADCEB KMLWD GDSPN
KCKYT CWBSI WZCKR
NTWSO RCDHX DQFTV
YTZBH XDTEL RCSQY
OSLBX PIPBP MQTDN
KCGW
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's the same kind of cipher we already solved . The key is Mandalay.
To Polaris, Pherkad, and Yildun,
On train here. Report network is blown. Request you locate their daughter.

Polaris, Pherkad, and Yildun are names of stars in the Ursa Minor constellation. I assume this means that Ursa minor is the Headquarters or something like that, and they are contacting all their agents who have these nick names.

Y'know...I just spent a fair bit of time solving this, only to find I'd been beaten to it. D'OH!
Of course, what now? I can't find these names in the player database. So I'm kind of stuck.
Then again, I just found this and have JUST gotten up to speed...at least, I think so.

But where's Kochab?

We have the daughter's picture. She looks like Erin Moran.
As I was trying to figure out who her parents were, I decided to change the punctuation. How does this sound:
To Polaris.
Pherkad and Yildun on train here. Report network is blown. Request you locate their daughter. -Ursa Minor
That would explain whose daughter. I also like it better because addressing 3 agents in the same letter isn't normal. And I never liked "on train here". Why would Ursa Minor give it's location unless the instructions were to come back to base. The instructions were to locate their daughter.
I think Pherkad and Yildun are married. (and they probably look like Mr. & Mrs. Cunningham).

So, You've never written a group email? same concept only not electronic. And how do we know that all the agents didnt get a copy? I am just trying to be the devil advocate. I like your letter better but I think it could work either way.

It just doesn't seem 'normal' to me. If Polaris was supposed to work with other agents, the instructions would state that, not the greeting. If they a team, it seems like it would be addressed to their leader.
Copying other agents makes it seem like a committee, which isn't really in line with the way the military works
I think sapagoo's punctuation is right.

This is something I've been rattling around my head ever since Maurice killed the German in South America, but never found a way to tie it in until now.
The last thing Maurice said was "Bergen-Belsen".
Bergen-Belsen happened to be one of the Nazi death camps in WWII.
I'm willing to bet if the daughter thing starts to pan out as speculated that this kid is in that camp and the 1960s prisoner is the executioner.
OR......
It's a fact that Bergen-Belsen in it's early days circa 1940 served as a POW camp as well.
Just some stuff for everyone to chew on.

I think sapagoo's punctuation is right.
From the latest updates, there is either a grammar error in this letter or a continuity error in the later update.
Polaris - For a Rumor wrote:
...
"What about just a couple of people? Martin's parents, maybe. Couldn't you just let them go?"
"And a friend of mine."
"Operative of yours, you mean. No. Three is too many. Maybe one escape, not three."
"One person?" said Whitecloud. "Now that's not right. You can't make the boy choose which parent will go. It's inhuman."
"I'll play you for them," said Reed.
...
Prior to this update, we were basing spec on Reed's drinking letters and the "request you locate their daughter." But in the update, Reed is trying to spring a one-man agent who would be rescued at the expense of Maria's parents.
Seems to me that Ursa Minor is the XO (not a central office) over Polaris, Pherkad, and Yildun. Everyone but Reed was non-American, so they're all stuck on the train. But the letter was either written before Pher & Yild were captured, or Ursa didn't know that the two were captured yet. Or, perhaps Ursa sent three out, and that's how Pherkad and Yildun were caught?
Or, sapagoo's modification is right and the letter has a grammar error (their instead of our).

Per information (I think Whitecloud?) Martin said that his parents sent him to stay with his uncle (Franz Mueller) because the Priest was in a safer location. The parents were caught traveling to the town where the Priest and child were to meet them.

How fitting is it that Mandalay anagrams to "A man lady"?
