[Spec?] Authenticity of 3P Groupware Manager information Am I the only one who is worrying a bit about the authenticity of the 3P Groupware stuff? The whole operation on Saturday was a big fake setup with a mole--they deliberately gave us a bunch of puzzles that ended up not meaning anything, to either keep us occupied or test our skills. We came across the Groupware site as a result of the operation. The Groupware site is stuck in an "demo" mode--would a group with the resources to hire a helicopter and who is hell-bent on destroying the world, kicking puppies, and using the cube for their own fiendish purposes not have the resources to buy the Groupware (or not have the security in place to notice their registration expired)? The audit stuff seems laughably easy--the usernames are dropdowns and the passwords are (or are related to) the "keywords," which were busywork as part of the big fake operation, right?
So I'm not saying that I won't completely disbelieve it and that it may really be a peek into the shady back room of this organization. I'm just saying that maybe we should think twice about how much belief to put in information from this source before we get burned again.

yes and no. the trail started from Monica and the first steps of the trail were clearly not faked. Where the 3P 'took' the trail we don't know but it the emails do indicate when.
It has been specced that the 3P took the trail up later than the emails suggest and the keywords are correct, but (some) of the emails have been faked in order for us not to think that all the keywords are correct. Therefore there's a website we need to find with the keywords
It's a double double double bluff, as tanner has said 'we think they think we think they think'.

IMO, this site was created to throw us off track. The key bit of info, for me, was that they gave us the last password. They actually wanted us to access this site. No group would give you access to a site where they discuss all of their plans, THIS ISN'T A BOND MOVIE PEOPLE!
As a result, I think that we have in fact got all the keywords (except for watch) and the site is intended to make us think we've gone wrong.

Well either way no harm in following up the results, if it turns out to be wrong then at least we have struck this from our list ....do we have a list?
Now just have to rearrange a few letters to make up any possible site on the web...simple!

Yeah, I agree that this 'groupware' manger feels a bit 'fake'. Everybody talks in riddles and its not exactly hard to find the place...
But, like locqust said, there's no harm in seeing where this 'trail' is going...even if it is a trap...cos as always, we can feed them with fake info as well!!! Let's see if they call our bluff.

I see where you're coming from - there's good reason to disbelieve the information here. That said, from an OOG perspective, I think a double-double-(double?) bluff might be a bit of a stretch. As we don't really seem to be *losing* anything by following the trail and being tricked by the 3P (apart from plenty of calories!) I say we precede as usual, with a little added caution.

Procede with caution, but we should do something to throw them into a trap... if they want us to believe this, and are really trying to lead us off their tail, we should be prepared to bluff them right back and actually have a way to gain something from this, even if it is a bluff

Yeah, fair enough, proceed with caution. But I do feel that we could work out our own little scam and entice some info out of them...can't hurt to try it at least...we'll probably get some credit for it anyway.

At the very least, we ought to come up with some way to identify each other -- is it fair to mention Unfiction, since it's OOG? Otherwise we'll always be looking over our shoulders at events, thinking one of us is another mole.

They'll find a way around it. We were asking people what their online handles were, but as there had been the advert in the Metro, and about 5 people came solely on the basis of that advert, there was no way of telling who the mole was. People were saying that there'd be one, but we have no way of identifying them. The 3P are smart, they will expect us to do things like that, so they'll get around it by one way or another.

It's a very difficult problem... I don't know how things were handled at the last event, I think I read somewhere that everybody met up at a cafe first? Maybe we should stick with that. The handles were a good idea, people you didn't know from the forums should be treated with a certain air of carefullness... moles usually exert a certain air and emotion. I don't know what would happen if you caught one out, since that might hinder the story in some way, too...

Yes, I think there's something odd going on here - V tells them all to "stand by", then nothing, no emails since last Tuesday, despite the successful flight of O8 on Saturday. No round-up? No discussion? Suggests they're communicating through other channels.
As to identifying each other, if the next event is publicised in say the papers, it'd be almost impossible. On the other hand, we know now what should have alerted us on Saturday - eg the mole being in contact with someone online!

At the next meet though, lets not be too focused on 'finding the mole'. If there is one it'll be for a reason and we should just do what we should be doing rather than indulge in accusations of evilness to complete strangers

Ooooh, I like the idea of us bluffing them somehow. Of course, I can't think of any way at all.
Maybe next event, nobody shows up, just watches from windows and parked cars, with collars up and shades on. Then if someone turns up, we know they are a plant!
Or if we all give up totally, stop solving puzzles, then wait until they throw the Cube away and dig it out of the bin!
