A message from the Head Librarian of the Aglaura Public Library
Quote:
Our normally peaceful Library will be transformed into a playground full of games, scavenger hunts, contests and prizes as The Aglaura Public Library launches its Summer Reading Challenge Program with a blast on Saturday, June 7th, starting at 12 noon and lasting until 6:00PM.

This will be fun and exciting for the whole family with a wide array of different activities, and a great way of getting people thinking and excited about reading this summer. Booths will be set-up throughout the Library, and kids of all ages can compete in contests and games for prizes and merchandise from local merchants. The activities will range from thinking and memory games, guessing games, speed reading contests, and the usual "carnival type" of skill contests. The Library will remain open the entire time, although we can't guarantee the usual quite and serene atmosphere.

The Aglaura Library Summer Reading Challenge Program is an eight week program designed to motivate New Jersey residents to read this summer, and challenges participants to read as many books as possible in the eight week span, with special recognition and awards for the highest achievers. Despite the "kid-friendly" theme of the initial launch event on June 7th, the Aglaura Library Summer Reading Challenge Program features both children's and adult components. Special Reading Clubs will be set up for children ages 3 to 8 and for children in grades 1 through 7. The children will be allowed to read and listen (through audio books!) to whatever they choose from the Summer Reading Challenge Program list and receive stickers and small prizes for each book they complete. Adults will have a similar challenge with, of course, different reading lists and prizes as well.

Sign-up forms for the Summer Programs are available at the Circulation Desk and will also be available at the Aglaura Library Summer Reading Challenge Program kick-off on June 7th. As always, you can get more information on this or any of our programs at the Aglaura Public Library by e-mailing us

AGLAURA POLICE PROMISE DEVELOPMENT THIS WEEK IN BURGLARY - May 31, 2003

The Aglaura NJ Police Department, in a statement released on Friday, May 30th, promised an important development in the ongoing investigation of the burglary at the Hollow Needle sometime in the upcoming week. "We are on the verge of a major breakthrough in this case," said Aglaura Police Chief Dawn Prufrock, in the prepared statement. "You can expect a major development in the next week that should help us wrap up this investigation."

The Hollow Needle Rare Books and Antiques store is on Old Dobbs Road, in Aglaura. The business, owned by J. Douglas Willingham, the Aglaura Borough attorney, and his wife, Phyllis Willingham, was burglarized during a home invasion on May 15, 2003.

STRANGE EVENTS IN AGLAURA - June 6 , 2003

Do you believe in spirits? Poltergeists? No? Well, many Aglaura residents didn't either, at least until this week, when many of them reportedly experienced first-hand strange and unexplainable events. The Aglaura Police have reported receiving over three dozen calls this week from residents complaining about a wide variety of weird occurrences, like items being moved about their homes, lights mysteriously turning on and off, and strange noises coming from walls, floors, and even animals. They supposedly have not found any explanation for the large majority of these events.

AGLAURA POLICE TRACE BURGLARY TO EUROPE - June 6 , 2003

The Aglaura NJ Police Department, in a surprising development, has reportedly tracked one of the items stolen during a recent burglary in Aglaura to a researcher and collector in Europe. "We are not prepared to release this person's name yet," said Aglaura Police Chief Dawn Prufrock, "But we are pursuing every possible resource to secure this item and return it to its rightful owners here in Aglaura." The item, an old and supposedly very valuable manuscript page, was taken from the Hollow Needle Rare Books and Antiques store, on Old Dobbs Road, in Aglaura, during a home invasion on May 15, 2003.
"We originally received several anonymous tips about the possible location of the manuscript page," explained Chief Prufrock, "and have been following up on this and several other leads in the case. Our hard work has paid off and I can say that we are now 98% certain we know who has this stolen item. We hope to bring the case to a conclusion soon."

Dale not kicked off Council

AGLAURA COUNCIL POSTPONES COUNCILMAN DECISION - June 11, 2003

In yet another surprising move, the Aglaura Borough Council voted unanimously to postpone a decision on missing Aglaura Councilman, Dale Sprague. Mr. Sprague has not been in attendance at any Borough Council in the last two months, after losing his wife and daughter in a tragic car accident back in February 2003. The Aglaura Borough Council had been considering a motion to remove Mr. Sprague from office, due to his inability to fulfill the duties and requirements associated with a Councilman but at the June 10th Council meeting the original presenter of the motion, Aglaura Attorney J. D. Willingham, motioned to table the final decision for at least one month. Atty. Willingham offered no explanation for the move, which appeared to surprise the other Councilmen as well as the residents in attendance. Mr. Sprague could not be reached for comment.

Update: MORE STRANGE EVENTS IN AGLAURA - June 19 , 2003

MORE STRANGE EVENTS IN AGLAURA - June 19 , 2003

Quote:
The recent rash of strange events reported in and around Aglaura continued throughout the last week, with literally dozens of residents reporting more incidents of strange noises, sightings, and events. Aglaura Police Chief Dawn Prufrock told area reporters in an impromptu press conference that Aglaura officials believe many of the recent reports are examples of copycat events. "There seems to be some sort of mass hallucination or copycat frenzy going on," said Chief Prufrock, "Because most of the calls we respond to have turned out to be totally groundless." The Chief refused to comment on last night's reported incident at the Aglaura Public Library, in which several bookcases were toppled over and the books displaced arranged in strange patterns on the floor. She also refused to confirm that they may have video tape of the incidents from recently installed security cameras in the Library. The Library was the location of a similar incident just a few weeks ago.

Hmmm wonder if we'll get to see the video... wonder what the pattern was... perhaps like the graffiti?!??

News Posted 6/21

LOCAL GRAND JURY INVESTIGATION BEGINS MONDAY 6/23 - June 21 , 2003

As announced by Channel 8 Burlington County News in the latest video newsclip we have posted, the Grand Jury investigation looking into alleged improprieties of the Marzano Enterprises business empire begins next week, on Monday June 23rd. The Investigation has already generated an enormous amount of local interest and attention as it is taking place in nearby Burlington and because of local affiliations with various entities owned by Marzano Enterprises. One of their companies, a construction company called Sons of Don Construction, was responsible for the recent renovation of the Aglaura Public Library Building. As of today, there has been no formal announcement that the Aglaura project will be part of the Grand Jury investigation in any way.

SPEC

Some random thoughts...

Earlier several other speculated that the "vote" was an attempt to lure Dale in. This theory seems valid, but the more they delay it the less influence it will have.

Finally, I don't know if this has been discussed previously, remember a month or so ago there was mention of the "next wave" of fairy guards to be released on Agulara (with the dead eyes being the first)? I wonder if these poltergeists are that next wave?

Thoughts?

FINAL LOCAL SUBPOENA SERVED - June 30 , 2003

The final member of the local Aglaura government body, the Borough Council, was served with his subpoena to be available to participate in the ongoing Marzano Enterprises Grand Jury Investigation. Mr. Dale Sprague, who had been unavailable for personal reasons until this weekend, was the only member of the Aglaura government who had been named but not yet served as a potential witness in the case. Mr. Sprague declined to comment on receiving the subpoena but Borough Attorney, J. Douglas Willingham issued a brief statement promising that all Aglaura officials would cooperate fully with the Grand Jury currently convened at the Burlington County Court House, in downtown Burlington, New Jersey.

AGLAURA FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION - July 06 , 2003

Aglaura residents celebrated the Fourth of July with a small ceremony in front of the Municipal Building, in which Mayor Dobbs and other local officials made brief statements about the importance of believing in and following the traditional American values of liberty, freedom, and justice for all. In part of his statement, Mayor Pat Dobbs praised the "wonders of our great justice system in which everyone," he said, "is treated equally, iiregardless of their wealth or social status." Other speakers included Borough Attorney J.D. Willingham, and Borough Councilmen William Singletary and Vincent Capazzolo.
The ceremony continued after the speakers by a community cook-out and was capped off with a small but well-received fireworks display at dusk.
