That reminds me of that great bit in LA Story, where Steve Martin gets in the car, drives about a block, parks, and then walks into the restaurant or cafe of whatever. Heh heh.

Last time I was there, I was intensely frustrated by actually having to obey the freaking Don't Walk signs at crosswalks. My friend Jon, a born-and-bred Chicagoan, kept automatically putting his arm out to bar me from crossing.

"But there's no traffic!!!" I protested. It was the middle of the day, in a relatively un-touristy area near the auto museum.

"You could get a ticket for jaywalking," he informed me gravely. I laughed, but he wasn't kidding. Man.

I know you all haven't seen me around online much, but I WILL be there. (I have to be, I'm getting Vic's hat and I'm very excited about it.)

So please do PM me if you're in or around the Orange County Area and we'll have a big ol' convoy. Smile

I'm staying in Fullerton for the week, so that sounds like a grand time. I trust we'll be heading out fairly early?

LA event news

I have reliable information that the place to stay is around downtown LA/ Hollywood. That is the best I can do, but that narrows down the possibilities!

Have a great time!!

Heading out early is a good idea. Technically, it takes around an hour to get to LA from OC. But I always plan on at least two. Once we know where we're going, we can try to find a nice place to meet early for brunch up there or something.

Looking at hotels, I found: on Expedia, there is an $87 deal for New Otani hotel - that is in Japantown. Though it is located in one of the scariest areas of LA, Japantown itself is very sweet, clean, and pretty. The hotel itself is also nice, though not spectacular. The main attraction is - lots and lots of very authentic, very cheap Japanese food.

There is also the downtown Sheraton on Travelocity - two double beds for $99.

And I am still looking for a suite. There is a suite at this Westin for $209 [EDIT: actually, I found this suite for $189. I think it looks like this] for Saturday night. There is only one King bed, and they will bring a roll-away bed for free. That said, it looks like there is a couch. There are two rooms, so plenty of space for quite a few drunken ARGers to party all night. I'm going to see if I can find something better, though. As I said before, I'll be glad to go in on the room cost, if we use it for afterhours drinkering.

Oh, and, HHM - do you think we should carpool from OC? I can pick up Jinxie and anyone else that needs to be picked up, but I wonder if it would be better to bring more cars to LA (as opposed to less), though? It looks like there will be plenty of people without wheels, and they will all need to be transported somehow.

Sounds good to me; I lived in Southern Cal from birth up until last December, which was why I mentioned an early departure. You never how how truly awful traffic can get.

I'm riding with my friend Danielle, and if Woody ends up coming along that'll be three to the car. I'm okay ridewise, but I'm all for meeting up somewhere and caravaning down. I think that it'd be a good idea to have a fair number of cars since we won't know who's going to want to stick around for how long for the post-game festivities.

I am definitely willing to go in on the cost of a suite for after-hours drinkering and partying. It'd probably be a better idea for a lot of the people leaving on Sunday to take this approach instead, since if we got enough people to go in on it we'd all end up paying very very little. 10 people would be somewhere around, what, $20 a person? That's not much to pay for a place to stay for the night.

I like the idea, and I'm in. It's open invite, so anybody up for some cheap lodgings for partying on Saturday night should definitely consider this.

I'm also in on the suite! wooo!

I've also updated the first post in the thread with a bit more info, so check it out if you haven't seen it. Also, add your name to the fresh new wiki page - LA Event. It might be easier to get a good idea of who's interested in what and when they'll be there if it's in a list over on the wiki instead of scattered amongst a bunch of posts. (if you're petrified of the wiki, let me know and I'll add you Smile)

I'm willing to chip in on the suite too, and I've added myself to the wiki page. 820 miles isn't really that much farther than 538 is it? Razz

Hey team, I'm planning on flying in (I was planning on coming home that day for thanksgiving break to san jose, so i changed my flight to a day earlier to long beach) and meeting some friends who live down in Fullerton who are also planning on coming. Another friend of mine is driving down from San Luis Obispo and meeting us and we're planning on picking up another pal at UCSD, so I know you mentioned San Diego, so if anyone's considering coming from there or anywheres nearby, I can see what I can do.
