Re:whitney

Friday night from 6:00 -9:00 the Whitney is pay what you want for admission. Information here

if you aren't leaving until 3:00 on Sunday you would have time for the Whitney on Sunday before you leave. The Whitney is home to Sarabeth's brunch place that my son and I go to all the time,we could maybe go there if you like - and, more importantly, the phone bank where Melissa called us. (bagsbee found that phone after I reminded him there were phone booths downstairs inside the museum)

Keep in mind I have *no clue*, but I would think that it might be cool to be up there around sunset time... that way we could see the city in several different lights. If we get there just before the sun sets, we'd see it in daylight, then we'd see the setting sun, then we'd see the night beginning to take over.

From there we could head someplace for dinner and drinkerin'

(omg! i am getting soooo excited!)

edit: holy cow! the sun sets up there like an hour before it does here! Throw in the time change and that's like 4:45! That's a bit early, especially for those with jobs.

I know 4:45 is early - but sunset lasts a while. Unlike those island places where the sun just sort of disappears all at once. Maybe people who are interested could post here what time might work for them?

The burger joint at Le Parker Meridien. I don't think it has an actual name, but there's a big neon picture of a hamburger on the wall. It's inexpensive and the hamburgers are really, really good. When you walk in, you think you've entered a truckstop. Totally incongruous to the modernist, sleek design of the hotel. One wall is covered with celebrity autographs. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

when i was last over, me and Rose went to Ruby Foos on Broadway in the lower Upper West Side. It had two levels, the upper like a semi-circular balcony, was large, some big round tables too, if i recall correctly. Atmosphere was really quite good, smart, chic - the cocktail I had was delicious and quite alcoholic! Food - sushi etc, which also came with their own house sauces to dip, which makes a change - Platters to share I would think would be the best bet -it was reasonably priced, and well worth it.
(Whlst on the subject - the best steak i've ever had was in that Market Cafe.)

So I'm thinking it might actually be a good idea to pick a time and place to meet. Several things have been suggested, but nothing has been resolved.

From my perspective, I'd say somewhere within walking range of the ladies' hotel might be best. Easy for them, as they won't have to navigate the subway. Also easy for me and anyone else coming via Port Authority, because it only takes one train a couple of stops to get there. As for an exact location, I would prefer to leave that to the discretion of the City Experts, since they are more expert than I. Also, I don't want to be blamed if things don't go as planned. I was never cut out to be Captain Planner of the Organization Brigade.

Time: 11:30 sounds like a good idea. Personally, I'll end up in the city around 9:30, just because the next bus after that will get me there too late.

And with that, I seem to have completey run out of things to say.

I agree with Ikkarus. I also will be getting into Port Authority at a similar time. Just tell me when and where to meet y'all... and how to get there, please.

Date: Saturday, Nov. 5th
Time: 11:30am-Noon
Location: Plaza outside 599 Lexington Ave. (across the street from the Citicorp building). 53rd St & Lexington Ave.

This is a couple of blocks from the ladies' hotel, and it's convenient for rose and I as well. For Port Authority arrivals, take the uptown (Queens-bound) E train at 42nd & 8th (right outside PA), 4 stops to Lexington Ave. If you get on the back of the train, you will exit the station exactly at the meeting spot.

Subway Map

We can grab a bite, then get on the E train and head out to the event.

Sound like a plan?

That works for me and I'll forward that information to DonkeyOatey who is, last I heard, planning on joining us (maybe Friday night as well! woo!). Also, Rose, Bagsbee, & EGo, I'm sending you a PM with my cell phone number so check your messages and feel free to call me anytime after noon. Gup, Scrappy, and Ikkarus already have my # and if anyone else going to the NYC event wants/needs it... if you send me a PM before, say, midnight tonight, I'll get it to you.

I'm so very excited and can't wait to see you all tomorrow and/or Saturday!

Well, as the weather looks to be non-rainy this weekend, I'm going to be coming down for the event.

I won't be able to meet up with anyone beforehand as I do have a 3 hour drive to get into the city and I don't want to leave really effing early to get down there, so I'll just meet everyone at the cemetery.
