@RPGgame
What you described was exactly the same for me. I expected something to happen when you find the card, a pop-up like I've seen before. Perhaps all others get one in that second you find the card, I don't know.
When I typed carlosdelaje I was certain that someone else had found out that "Hollis" wasn't what was said in the movie and when nothing happened - no pop-up - I thought I didn't get it, but then I saw my name underneath the picture of Carlos...

I was feeling bad I must admit, because someone - I don't even know who it was - said that Spider called "Hollis" or something like that. I went back to watch it myself and it was "Carlos", loud and clear (headphones might be useful). I thought for a second that I should give the person credit who brought it up and tell him/her, but I didn't do it, because I was thinking about watching the movie again for all this time...only that I didn't do it, because I figured that someone else must have done this, already. Wink
Then I thought, whatever, you could have done this some time before, why not now? Maybe he/she got a card, already.
So, yeah, stupid, I was really feeling bad for a moment there.

For the record, my cards were just dumb luck.

When "Patton" was told to us from the KC event, the first name that came to my mind was GeorgeSPatton. (Like GeorgeCScott whom I associate with Patton and totally expected that picture to be in the avatar).

When the profile pops up on the screen, I too expected a sound or a banner but it is only by the scrolling down to see the "discovered by" that tells one who finds it.

And Janet Brown was just a lucky guess since I have always known about "OneeyedJacks".

So, do you guys think there will be a "SuicideKing"???? Wink

I agree with skywisej on his points, that this game really isn't all about finding cards and solving puzzles.

Thanks for agreeing with me! One thing though... I'm a girl Smile

I think it's great actually that I can honestly explain my feelings without being flamed. I take no offense from anyone rebutting me, nor do I hope I offended anyone either. It's just the way I've perceived it so far.

I'll try to get IRC working and hopefully, they'll decide to make a live event in Green Bay! Smile

I was totally going to avoid flaming you... until I learned you live in Green Bay, so as a loyal (and fairly fanatical) Bears Fan, I feel it is my duty to flame away.

Hence: Flaming Nutter

And, as a loyal member of the outter circle (despite meeting many inner circle folk at DC) I must say, we're much cooler out here.

If you need some help trying to get IRC up and running, let me know (PM me or AIM me: Shantihtimes3. If you need a different messaging program, let me know, I've got them too. ), I'd be happy to try to give you a hand... it's not as difficult as unusual internet acronyms often seem to be.

Edit: Hmmm.. I guess I got bumped up from Boot to Veteran. I hope that doesn't mean I'm becoming inner circle <g>[/i]

LOL, I actually am not a Packers fan, I just moved here from NYC this summer and have lived on the East Coast my entire life.

However, I am a total hardcore diehard Raiders fan, hence my name. For that, feel free to flame on. Smile

Just to flesh that point out, it was I who said she called Hollis out in IRC. And that's just the way this game goes. I was sitting in the poker room, vic said the last name but couldn't remember the first name, and I remembered that Spider told them to chase after William in the latest movie. Did I tell anyone? Of course not! I went and listened to the movie, all panicy-like, and she says, "Hollis, Jimi!" Hollis didn't work, so I try about five variations and give up. Then I tell the folks in IRC. That all took about 45 seconds. <staple on Abraxis' story here>

I never did figure out how they ended up with Carlos until just now, and lo and behold I played a key part in the solve. That's just how this game is played...anyone interested in a solve will have to be in the right place at the right time and get a little lucky. The cards are found so quickly that anyone who takes the time to suss out details and share their information will drastically reduce his/her chance of getting a spade. Some folks have even decided to only share info with specific other people, in order to help the individual get a first spade.

There is a definite have/have not dynamic we deal with in every game, based on a game's specific rules. When there's live interaction, those who can be at the live event naturally have deeper participation than those who don't. When a puzzle uses complex math, folks who understand advanced calculus have an unfair advantage. Technology can be a barrier, favoring the geeky, programmers, specific-os users, etc. Is this fair? Is it good? It just...is.

So we have a general value in the community that stresses making the games as accessible to everyone else as possible. Part of this is a general rule of "never horde your solves." Sometimes it seems like games are made that (sometimes accidentally, sometimes intentionally) go directly against this value. I think the spades could qualify as an example, but there have definitely been others.

In ILB, random people were given an in-game status that instantly polarized the community around loyalty to two characters in the game: melissa (Crewmembers) vs. yasmine (SP Army). Crewmembers got live interaction with in-game characters, first access to information, even special tasks. One crewmember was given a secret mission (which he kept secret), and he actually got a major in-game character killed! You wouldn't believe the hoo-bob that came out of that one, but it came back to the same issue of some people getting more chance to be involved because of luck, skill, specific conditions, or other random advantages.

In each of these cases, the community tends to strike a good balance between playing competitvely and playing collaboratively. Sometimes it's the folks behind the game toying with us to figure out exactly what we're capable of doing if we pull together as a team. Sometimes it's because someting didn't go according to the puppetmasters' original plan, so they make a fix (in ILB, they made a community-centered mission that allowed us to bring the dead character back to life, gave everyone the chance to be a crewmember, and eventually merged the two characters to resolve any loyalties). Sometimes it's us making a fix to something we as a community saw happening that we didn't like. It's all part of the fun: figuring out how to overcome each of the unique challenges to collaborative play a game brings.

Kona, it was described thus on page 2:

The flash file in question is here, and zooming in is done by right-clicking.

And the name MAJ. DAMON MICHAEL is on the side of the rifle of that last fellow in the center of the frame, just above his hat.

I didn't, until blifaloo posted it. Mr. Green
