The contest ends on the thirtieth, not thirteenth. So plenty of time left.

Endian ? huh ?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Brian uses a mac, 'big endian architecture'
Most users use a PC 'little endian'
This 'clue' from Steve was a misdirect, but makes sense once you have solved (and know what big and little endian are and do)

Dammit, I just tried downloading at least 30 different hex editors, but the admin just won't let me, is there a manual way to do this coz you can imagine how frustrating it is to get through the first 11 parts and to not even be allowed to try the last part, also, since you've told us the less obvious file that you need, then could you divulge the one that all computers have.
thanx

No, there's really no easy way to do it by hand. There are alternatives to a hex editor (for example I wrote my own program to do it) but by hand would be very VERY hard.

If you've gotten to the point where you can see "Enigma" you're in very good shape

He didn't say that ALL computers have it. He said that nearly everyone has access to it. In other words it's very common but not ubiquitous.

darklord: your letters aren't right, go back and check your sudoku grid, (or post it here)
Any more hints for von Neumann going?

(1) Alternate lines and 3's will get you within two steps
(2) Watch out for the special case! (3) /0
Is no-one gonna try this?

Von Neuman is the E-word referring to Brian, or to Bletchley Park?
Not sure the answer will help me much, tho

With avalix's benevolent help, and some mind numbing anagramming (i am so beyond where i should be with this .. If i win it'll be like the mouse wo roared, it really will) I have fFinally passed the sudoku.
So i'm on the uhm .. wait ..
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Right. I'm on the resistor one. but uhm, well, i don't really know much about resistors. I fFounda couple nice tutorials on the subject. I see what data I should be looking at and dealing with. But I'm missing something. Should an intro-to-electronics class be necesary fFor this one? I'm guessing not .. but all the people who've solved it seem pretty bright.

Nope, no intro class required. After a bit of searching, I solved this one by looking at this fabulous page:
