I'm not sure how merge sort could help. You would just end up with an ordered list of values.

Thanks to c1023 & uneasyjd fFor identifying my sudoku error. Now if I could only grasp the hints everyone keeps tossing out.

Maybe the Von Neumann one is something to do with Pseudorandom number generators.

Although I have checked the middle-squared method and that doesn't seem to correspond.

You could try this table for converting between binary, hex and ascii.

wow, looks boring but helps lots, thanx, I hate numbers, so I'll probably have to print out a few hundred copies of sudoku when I get to it, coz they may accidentally end up in an atom smasher.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I said on the first page that there are 28 characters in the answer. So split the binary into 28 lines.

Each 'byte' of information normally needs 8 bits, but these only have 7. Looks like you'll need to add something.

Try encoding some letters, see what each and every one has in common. I reccommend using this application.

Fix the 7-bit binary to 8-bit with your new found information.

Decode it.

Type it into the URL.

Right, thanks for the clue on the binary one yesterday - solved it a couple of hours later but never got onto the board to post and say thanks! Have now caught up and am also on the Von Neumann puzzle... looks disturbingly like a certain silver card....

Thanx a lot all, I'm learning more from pxc than I ever did in school, and really quickly too, I'm now onto the beale one, oh what fun.

p.s. I know it's not relevant but I was really expecting a haloween event for pxc, you know a note pinned to a wall with a bloody knife, that sort of thing. I suppose they mustn't celebrate it in perplex city.

Von Neumann was simpler than it seemed, wasn't it?!
