 Polite Request: Poker Game Chats

If you are posting chats with characters, could you please delete all the dealer lines? That would help shorten the logs and make them easier to read for folks who weren't there.

Thanks!

I'm worried that it might become important down the road for us to know what hands are played - it may be that a character responds strongly to a certain style of play, or a particular card, or something like that. To remove those lines would take away that context.

Additionally, the logs are tedious enough to capture in the first place. Most can be cut and pasted in their entirety, but sometimes the chats are long enough that the chat buffer does not hold it all, so we gotta either pause mid-way through, or go back and re-start to catch the stuff that scrolled off.

Also also wik, one cannot just fast-forward through the logs. When they say 'record,' they mean it. You will get to watch the hand again in real time. Which means for a slow hand, it's very very time-consuming.

I'm open to thoughts, but I am also a worried completist. I like having those (possibly extraneous) details at my disposal.

Well, I read the first post, then went and took out all the extranious text. Now I come back and read Krysyn's post and feel like I goofed up. Razz I am just a hopeless newbie, trying to go with the flow.

How about bolding the important info (i.e. from the characters). That makes it much easier to read.

Would it be too tedious to bold the convo text? Or would it be crazy to have the full log and then just the convo text?

oops! I waited to long to post and Kona beat me to it!

I think that's a great compromise! Still kinda tedious, but not terrible.

Also, while I agree that which hands won may be important, could we maybe delete all the "NAME checks"? Leave in who folds and when, and who wins/loses, but I don't think we'll need all the checking and calling, do you?

Again, tedium. Also, checking and calling is just as much a part of the game as folding. Smile

Okay, I was just thinking that if we really needed to know, the fact that someone had not folded, and who had betted, would indicate if they'd checked or called.

Sorry, my eyes are just crossing from reading tons of chat logs. Smile

As Krystyn said, leave the chats in here in there original form. We can put cleaned up and bolded versions in the wiki.

* Background information:

I spent 1 hour today just to extract chat logs out of 5 replay buffers in games that Victor was present at. It's a tedious process of replay, copy, pause, chat buffer scrolled off, copy, repeat if needed, etc.

* Since this is a community effort...

To Gupfee, konamouse, Varin, Phaedra, and anyone else interested in shortened / bolded chat logs:

I'm empowering you to do whatever you like to reformat the chat logs that I posted.

If you would like shortened / bolded logs...Please go through the complete logs that I have posted, and follow-up on the work necessary to shorten / bold them...and repost on the Wiki, the forums, etc.

I appreciate your interest in the chat logs. In return, I hope you can sympathize with the perspective that I'm writing from. Thanks. -- Lloyd

p.s. It looks like Ahecht reformatted the chat logs, and posted the shortened / bolded chat logs at:

Awesome! Thanks, ahecht. As long as we can get shortened versions somewhere, I'm fine with leaving the full ones up here. Smile In the end, I would have been okay with the long ones, but I was just thinking that if I'm feeling slightly overwhelmed and wishing I just had the meat of the conversation, I imagine others probably are too.

Yep, I was feeling the same way. From now on, with any chat logs I post, I'll put up a short version with just the convo to make things easier.

*This is a great tool to use for highlighting and bolding any chats with characters.

We should start posting that link as a sticky in the interaction sections of all ARGs. It's really a great tool.
