As krystyn sort of indicated above, we have a loose schedule for the weekend. There's so much to do in Chicago that it's really hard to choose one thing over another so I'm sure there will be plenty of times when people will split up.

Since people will likely be arriving at different times on Friday (more on that later), that first night will be mostly a meet-and-greet. That will leave Saturday and Sunday for seeing Chicago and maybe a surprise or two. We'll be picking some places for dinner, but breakfast and lunch will vary, I'm sure, depending on what people decide to do. Most museums and touristy places have places to eat inside or nearby, if needed.

About arrival/departure times - if you know your travel and hotel info, you can add it to the wiki and/or email the info to argfest06SPLATgmail.com (unless for some reason you don't want us to know when you're coming or where you're staying Wink ). Also, if you'd like you can include your phone number and real name (it's always sort of odd calling someone and saying, "Hi! Is this l33tplayer85?".) We had a contact list for the Beekeeper meetup and it really helped. If you don't want your number put on the list that everyone will get, just mention that in the email.

We have a little info packet to print out and carry with you that will be posted here in the next day or two that will include some of the basic Chicago info.

If you'd like to post your contact info on the wiki, follow this link to the Attendees page. You'll find a template for all the info varin requested above. Just make your name a link, copy the template text into your new page, and fill in as much as you want.

May I suggest that posting contact info on a wiki where anyone can see it is not very wise. Perhaps someone would volunteer to compile a list and distribute via PM or host a password-controlled page with such information.

Yes definitely no phone numbers on the wiki! Eep! Sorry, I just meant hotel info for that. All personal details should be sent through the gmail account already set up for that purpose...

At least one guy from Studio Cypher will be there. Possibly all three of us!

Alright, so since nobody answered my earlier posts, I'll have to go off of what I'm seeing here...

ARGFest isn't an actual fest, then. It's a sort of gathering for all of us nerds to just hang out. That's cool, too, but I'm a pretty unsocial guy. If I do end up coming out, I'll probably see you all and then just keep walking the other way cause I'm too scared to come up.

Chicken. Come introduce yourself and start talking. We'll be in the bar. You will find it strange but nice to meet the people behind the nics. Then we'll move to another bar. It'll be easy, trust me. As a group, we are pretty nice and inclusive. You'll find someone you can talk to.

And after that...you'll all go to another bar. Smile Rock On Drool Mr. Green

this sounds like a definite good time - unfortunately I have prior engagements that weekend. I'll keep an eye out for the next one. This is a freak month for me, partially due to the holiday and my national guard commitment ... Sad

So it turns out that I won't be able to make it to ARGFest yet again. Sad I have to help my wife vend at a local SCA event that same weekend. I should be at the Perplex City San Francisco Event (though it'll be just me in SF, since the date overlaps the Middle East Camp she is attending that week.)

So, what all are the plans for ARGfest this year?

Is it just arrive in Chicago and hope to run into some ARGgeeks as you're exploring the city on your own? From reading the thread and exploring the wiki, that's what it's seeming like.

I understand the hesitation of setting things into stone, knowing that not everyone likes the same things or that some people have done certain things or whatnot, but it would *really* help to have some sort of guideline for those of us that are really unsure about making the commitment to fly to a city to see friends - we don't really give a crap what we see and do, we just want to do it together. With some sort of outline, people can then make the decision if they want to attend that group event or not on their own.

If it needs to be more democratic - throw up a couple options for, say, Friday Night, Saturday Day, Saturday Night, and Sunday Day on the wiki - people can sign up with their choices. At the least, it will give us some confidence that there will be some group gatherings and we can have an idea, in advance, of when we'll be busy or when we could go off or whatever.

While not "events" per se, I think we need pretty firm decisions by the organizers about dinner friday and saturday. I can't make any recommendations because I know so few restaurants in Chicago and they're pretty expensive. But some places downtown would be preferred, I think. As they say, "Just do it."

I agree with imbri we also need a specific list of suggestions of places to go a) day and b) after dinner - it should be short and may be informal and we can improvise from there, but we need a way to definitely meet up and focus on a short list of recommendations. With a short list you'll be surprised how many people will just do what the rest are doing. And as long as we're not relying on word of mouth to arrange, no hurt feelings from people who don't hear about things. And people who don't want to do that stuff - will make their own arrangements.
