Just reserved my room at the O'Hare Holiday Inn, the Official Hotel of ARGFest Chicago™.

Flying in Thursday afternoon, will be having dinner that evening in the city with a friend, although I'll probably be free for a nightcap with the locals and/or other early arrivals if anyone's interested. I'll make sure to warm up the hotel bar for the rest of you.

Dunno if there's anything planned early Friday, but I'm available to meet up for whatever, PM or email me.

Very excited about seeing you all Very Happy

If we have a larger party for deep dish, we may wish to try Gino's East, rather than Uno's or Due's. It's in the River North area of restaurants, right across the street from Ed Debevik's, which some of the Beekeepers may remember from last year's Hivemeet.

(Uno's and/or Due's, so's you know, are tiny little restaurants that are very popular, and right off of the Magnificent Mile, and so are practically mobbed on the weekends. Gino's East will also likely be mobbed, but there's a great many more tables and space there.)

I've only eaten at the Gino's downtown, but I think it would be convenient to eat at this one either Friday night or Sunday at lunch. Friday night would *probably* be the best because it is so close to the hotel most of us are staying at. Most people will be arriving at different times on Friday, so us eating close to the hotel gives everyone a better chance of finding each other if they arrive close to or just after dinner time. I know somebody suggested doing deep dish on Sunday, and I can go with the flow, but this is my suggestion.

Good catch!

I just called that location, Amber, and they said that they do have a party room, but to guarantee privacy we would have to generate $600 on our bill, with a $100 deposit.

Otherwise, we can do a regular reservation, with the $100 deposit.

I am willing to front this, IF I can call back and get us a Friday night spot from 6-10. How does this sound?

/me speeds off to update the wiki ...

ETA: here's the website for that specific location's party packages:

Re: pizza

Don't forget to print out and bring the coupon.

Unfortunately pizza has an annoying tendency to make me violently ill, but if anyone's doing anything after Gino's...

Hmmm, I wonder -- are you cool with Caesar salad, or does being in the mere PRESENCE of pizza make you wacky? We can make sure that you're not going hungry, as long as you can hang with us.

... Please?

It's actually the cheese that does it, so Caesar salad is not an option either. (I'm just a big pain in the butt.) On the other hand, I can readily tolerate the mere presence of cheesy goodness and would be delighted to hang out... my only concern would be the ~$30 minimum charge for, well, not having dinner.

It's not a huge deal. I intend to spend just about every other waking moment with y'all, so if I gotta miss the first meal it isn't the end of the world.

Where are you getting $30 from?

The cheapest package is $9.99 per person, and then add some gratuities, and like, I can spot you for some o' that, cos like, you should BE there, man.

/me applies tons of peer pressure.

From this:

A few posts earlier, krystyn wrote:

...coupled with the fact that we have about 20 people for Saturday night. So I'm estimating.

Thank you for the very generous offer to spot, but it's truly not necessary. If I'm going, I can pay for it, honest. Mr. Green

Edit: And with this post, I am now officially an Unfictologist. Yay. Which may explain why I'm gracing everyone with this discussion instead of taking it to PM.

The $600 was for guaranteeing privacy in a party room. Which I don't think we need, nor can I finance that. Very Happy

Otherwise, it's a $100 deposit, and, I am assuming, the requisite party package. That's it. Well, gratuity. But whatever. Smile

We were planning on possibly setting up a small ARG Museum for people to view swag and chit chat and reminisce - if that sounds interesting to anyone. The easiest place to do this probably would be at the hotel in one of the conference rooms, but alot of people have indicated that they don't want to have to drive out to the hotel to do anything because they are staying elsewhere. Since we're already having pizza out near there on Friday, I'm thinking that would be a good time?

Also, since using a room downtown isn't an option due to pricing, this would likely be a "do it at the hotel" or "don't do it at all" thing.

So... opinions?

HERESY

And congrats on making Unfictologist! Wink

Regarding the ARG museum, I think it's a cool idea, but will there be enough stuff to justify a conference room?

I would think that spreading out several pieces of paper, small, valuable (sentimental/actual) items, posters, props, t shirts, and clowns in the lobby or next to people's kabobs at dinner would be a little difficult and confusing.

Especially the clowns.

Does a clown count as a carry-on item on planes?

Just trying to plan my packing...

(but yes, I think a conference room would be fun, even if only so we can have a gathering area that's larger than a hotel room)
