As for timeline, I think there are a few peeps with kids (myself included) who would prefer this be during summer vacation.

OMG, yes. I really don't want to be stinky and sweaty when I meet all of you this time. May, September or even June would be better than July or August.

Edit: ah, good point about the summer vacation thing. I'll sweat, if needed Wink

dates

Yes, the hot, humid days of July were chosen, very intentionally, because that was when Jamesi said he could go. And, believe it or not, the weather wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been! The next week we had the beginning of awfully hot summer. [ At least that was better than August, because August is unendurable except for the fact that the city is even more empty than it is in July. July was also good because we knew we places we went were thrilled to have our business. ]

I was wondering about July 4th as that is already a holiday weekend (here in the States, don't think it is observed in the UK Wink )- but maybe that isn't good for most people.

If we want to do it a bit earlier in May - how about Memorial Day? And we could play Last Call Poker too?

I promised (with one condition) krystyn and varin to be like jinxie and give whatever help I can with planning from afar, but I can't promise to actually be there when school is in session.

Maybe the most important thing is for the local planners to decide what works best for them? And what sort of things they want to do? I dunno. Someone else decide this one. Very Happy

Well, since last year was in NYC, i think we are looking for a different locale, something a little easier for the other end of the country to attend.

I'm not sure how much I can attend, but generally speaking, any major retail sale date is out {since as of now, i am a retail goddess} so there goes memorial day for me. July fourth too. i know i am en extreme minority on that one though.

Holiday weekends are notoriously difficult to get cheap airfares.

Earlier in the summer may be "nicer weather" than later. But it's still always a gamble. And it should be up to the host(s) of the event to pick the weekend that works best for them. It's hard to realize that everything can't work out for everyone. And if you can't make this one, there is always next year (Las Vegas 2007?).

First...for the record, I did warn people repeatedly about the July heat in NYC. But it seemed to be by far the most convenient time for the greatest number of people (and not just jamesi). Plus, as rose said, you guys lucked out, it was positively glorious weather compared to what preceded and followed that weekend...the ARG Gods surely smiled upon us.

Second...we are not doing it in NYC again, expel the thought from your heads. I'm hanging up my Official Organizer spurs, putting on my drinkering cap and going wherever people tell me the cold beverages are. ARGFest organizering is not a trivial amount of work, people pushing for their hometown to be chosen host city (wherever it may be) had better be prepared for the cat herding.

Third...I vote for Chicago. And I'm not really concerned about when, I'll gladly put up with a heat wave if we can maximize the # of attendees.

(p.s. - jamesi, you still owe me a beer)

EDIT - my 300th post, woo! Unfettered! Unfettered!

Dude, we were just never in the same place at the same time. Agreed -- I do owe you one. Very Happy

In Chicago.

Memorial Day/June - kids still in school

end of June - kids just got out of school

early July - holiday weekend that people often have other plans for in the US

early to mid August - often when the big family vacation/get together has been planned

late August - school starts when?!

Labor Day - school starts WHEN?!!

which leaves mid to late July as a realtively safe time frame

Although Columbus Day weekend in Chicago might be nice (even though that's not a holiday for me)

I'm in the banking business, so Columbus day IS a holiday for me Smile

But whatever... July works and so does Columbus Day (which would probably be much better in terms of weather)...

But yeah, I'll lend my planning skills and will help people look up travel options when we've decided upon a date.

(Can we assume we're going with Chicago yet? I think it's pretty good for most people, being centrally located et al... AND I WANT TO SEE YOU PEOPLE SO IT'S GOING TO BE IN CHICAGO, OK?!? Laughing )

Oh, god, July. Fine. I mean, this *does* mean I shall need a constant (and I mean CONSTANT) supply of chilled somethings to be served to me.

We need an ARG cabana boy.

Since Jamesi apparently already owes one Bagsbee one beer, then I suppose it would only make sense to nominate Jamesi as the official Cabana Boy of ARG Fest-O-Con v6.1, right?

Yeah, it will be hot. But IMHO, this is all the more reason to do cool indoors things. Museum of S&I, Bars, Field Museum, Bars, Swank Restaurants, Bars, Neo-Futurists, etc... you know... good quality time.

(Teh Dorkmastah is very excited. Do not feed Teh Dorkmastah.)

EDIT: I'm working on an official (free of charge for Jamesi) ARG Fest '06 Cabana Boy shirt design Smile (oh yes, it will be terribly drawn in MS Paint. YAY!)

Chicago would be grand, but if we could avoid the weekend of June 10th (when Clownie and I are getting married), that would be great.

Now. The question. White Sox game or Cubs game?

Chicago Sounds Reasonable

I had talked to celina about how SF would be a good place for an ARGFest when she was here recently. And though SF has great public transportation, and fairly reasonable prices for hotels around the airport, and generally cool weather in the summer, and Emeryville, I think it might be missing one thing.

People who are interested in working their tails off to host.

So, like I said, I think Chicago sounds reasonable to me.
