Though I would have died satisfied.

You're very welcome! After all, I was in the area (read: the Midwest).

Good pizza, and good times were had by all. I look forward to seeing you all again sometime! And hopefully for longer than five hours, too.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to stealing ideas from the ARG Museum Wink

Shocked Question

I was originally going to say that Table 1 missed out on the potatoes because Caspian_x was suppose to order them in place of the rice - but he messed up. Must have been the shock of his first taste of hummus.

I am so, so sorry.

Every time I think about them my brain gets all splodey.

You know, I'm not sure what the big deal was about those potatoes. They tasted pretty much like the ones I get at home, only with sauce on em.

The sauce was fine and all, but I'm not sure if it was brain splodey good Razz That is only reserved for a corndog filled gravy covered cake stuffed in a deep fried turkey.

Oh, did I tell anyone that I won free tickets to see Blue Men Group at the Venetian during the plane ride home?

TED is running some sort of promotional campaign with the show. It's called "Guess TED's Weight".

The pilot comes on the speaker and gives us some facts about the aircraft (it's empty weight), then the number of passengers (and suggests the average weight range), the range of weight for the luggage, the range of weight for the fuel with the number of gallons loaded. Passengers write down their guess and the closest wins.

They said I was off by only 61 pounds.
So now I have until Aug 31st to take a friend to see the show.
Pays to fly the friendly skies. And remember that they gave the weight of the "empty" plane (didn't include all the fluids in the multiple lines throughout the electronics, the seats, did you know that the paint weighs about 600 pounds, and all the galley stuff). Woot!!!!!

Lesson learned from attending last year's ARGfest, and attending/organizing this year's:

When choosing the "Official" hotel, don't worry about not getting the absolute lowest price. I think Varin did a great job of finding a hotel that would accomodate everyone who wanted to attend, while also providing a location near public transportation, our largest airport, and a fairly casual atmosphere. It was also very affordable, especially if you're a bunch of self-professed cuddlesluts like the boys of the BYOSP room.

It seems that being geographically near to everyone else is a HUGE boon, and should not be overlooked. I give kudos to those who are able to research hostels and other accomodations, but even though I live in Chicago, I ended up rooming with imbri on the last night, because I simply didn't want to miss out on several hours of karaoke/social time with everyone, that I would instead spend on a train or in a cab, getting back to my apartment.

As a traveler going to ARGfest, please consider that being in the same hotel as everyone else is so beneficial it easily outweighs whatever cost savings you may have through other accomodations. While I certainly was able to afford ARGfest NYC a little more easily last year by staying with another ARGer up in Washington Heights, I know that the travel time and the occasional cab fare that far north sometimes hindered my ability to be at panels or other events in a timely manner.

In other words, I wish I'd just sucked it up and given some hotel attendee a bit of cash, and crashed with a sleeping bag on someone's floor, heh.

Of course, it's always up to the attendee, and I think people should ALWAYS feel free to do what they like when they attend ARGfest. But I think in my (admittedly limited) 2 years of experience, I have observed that having everyone centralized is a big win for everyone for many reasons. So, I encourage those of you next year who are on the fence about shelling out a few additional bucks to be at the 'main' hotel to just go ahead and do it.

I'd like to echo Krystyn's sentiments about staying in a central location, even if it costs a few extra bucks. You'll never know what wacky adventures you'll miss if you're in a different hotel. Now, if you're the type that goes to bed before all that stuff happens anyway, perhaps it's not as big a deal. Still, trips such as ARGfest NEVER go according to Plan A and on-the-fly decisions are often made with majority consensus. If you stay somewhere else, you may miss those chances for in put as well.
