The restoration work on this book continues, but slowly. Cymbalisty, my boss, has had me working extra-late to get stuff ready for this big exhibit the museum is putting together. Apparently, they're delving into parts of the archives that were sealed more than 200 years ago. That's not the stuff I'm working on, of course. Instead I'm putting together more contemporary references (within the past hundred years) to the war for the additional material made available to museum visitors. It's pretty interesting stuff, actually. Until you look at it systematically, like this, it's hard to see how the war has been so consistently concealed. Or, well, not concealed. Just looked away from. It's hard even to write the words: "the war". We talk about "the conflict" or "our sad history". I don't know what I think about that.

Anyway, Kurt and I have managed to make a little time to carry on with our work on this conspiracy-theory tome. Lencival's terrible way with a sentence continues unabated, but he does claim to know something about the Third Power (which, from your letters, you seem to be interested in) so here's the relevant paragraph.

"Although the Third Power's roots certainly extend back through time until the very foundation of the city and into the prehistory of our world, with all that implies, they are nonetheless intertwined with the growth of the Academy. It is my belief, backed up by the spiritual guidance I have received through meditation on the Cube, that the Third Power was begun in the Academy. [He does not indicate how this can be true, given that the Third Power also extends back through prehistory. - Violet.] Certain symbols, found in various locations in the Academy confirm this to me and I have, through lengthy and extensive researches which have taken many years to complete, definitively proved that certain high-ranking personages within the society of Perplex City at the time in question were, in all probability, also members of the Third Power."

I imagine that the next section might be a list of names... we'll have to wait and see.

maybe:

Vianne Adamek
Helios Noi
Aetiant Taversen
Hesketh Zeller
Catherine Carrick
Boaz Delaney
Robart Kermeen

im off to investigate known symbols in the academy... do we take it as a given that the academy is full of third powerites now?

Sent email to Sente, unlikely it wil provide anything...

Mr Kiteway,

As the holder of the prestigious title head of perplex city academy I thought you would be to the person to contact concerning any queries I may have as regards to the Academy's layout and aesthetics. I was therefore wondering, if it would not be too much trouble, if you could provide me with any images you may have of any parts of the academy, more specifically the puzzles contained within the academy. I was also fascinated by the reports of a pre-historic mosaic and was wondering if I could be provided with a reproduction of its design.

Yours sincerely,

Perplexed

Possibly the 3P are The Conservatoire....would they still be considered 'pre-history' though?

Ah, the wild speculative possibilities Wink

Conservatoire = Conservatory = School of Music.

Like island resorts? Just curious Razz

Perhaps we'll finally learn the fate of Hesketh Zeller. It's been driving me crazy. Or, we'll figure out how, if the Third Power ran the Academy and moved the Cube there for display, what happened to them, and why they felt the need to remove/steal the Cube, if indeed it was ever there in the first place.

I took it to imply the war.

I have been assuming that the 3rd Power was just another group of cube fetishists like the others we've been introduced to, but if their origins do extend to prehistory, then they were around before the cube was discovered (period from 700 to 0BC is the beginning of the 'modern' era while the Cube was discovered in 7AC).

someone must have had the cube and lost it for it to be "discovered"

likely one of the cubist cults before history Smile

stonehenge is claimed by the druid cult but it had nothing to do with them really
