well, no mention on the Harrods website, though the prospect of lunch with Hello Kitty next weekend (at £25 a head!!!) is certainly appealing... You can always give the Toy Enquiries department a call on 020 7225 6781 to find out.

Slightly delayed info I'm afraid, but anyone in close proximity to Harrods...they are holding the event on the 4th Floor there, until 17:00 today.

Apologies, I had it in my head that it was next weekend, but just realised it was today,

Come on then, did anybody venture down to That London today? Surely someone'll have some news to report to Scarlet?!

I popped into Harrods at about 5PM (delayed by train from South London being cancelled). Went up the the fourth floor where the toy department is. Couldn't see any trading going on, but I did see where they were selling the cards. So I bought a few packs of cards for the novelty of not having to wait for them in the post (although at £2.95 a pop they're not the cheapest place to buy from) and then made a speedy exit to go and meet the friend I was in town to see.

Either I was too late, or in the wrong place, or not enough people turned up...

I did get both a black card and a green card that I needed in the packs I bought though...

I was there about 4. We asked 3 different people who worked there, and none of them knew anything about it, other then they were being sold on the desk. The only event going on seemed to be something about Yu Gi Oh. I'm guessing they may have got the wrong date? Because there was no one else there, and no one with any information.

Reviewing the mail I received about this, it was actually referred to as "a Yu-Gi-Oh Trading Card event", so, still no clearer really Wink

Ah yes, when I got there, there were still a few people playing Yu-Gi-Oh on some tables that were set up... It looked like some kind of Magic The Gathering style game rather than puzzle cards.

Curious.

Hmm, looking back at Scarlett Kiteway's post, it says to "A piece of news from Mind Candy! Apparently Harrods, a big store in London which stocks Perplex City puzzle cards, is holding a "Trading Card Extravaganza" on Saturday 12 November. It sounds great fun, especially for children!" - which doesn't exactly say that it's a Perplex City Trading Card Extravaganza...

Maybe someone got the wrong end of the stick?

'trading card extravaganza'? Why don't they just call it 'loserfest' and be done with it?

Perhaps they meant something more like:

There will be a trading card event that day, and since this place is huge and sells our cards, why don't you guys all go as a group and show everyone how much fun you're having? Cool

I was very much intending to go to this event, but much to my dismay upon arriving at San Francisco International airport, I was informed that not only are all U.S. Concord flights cancelled, but they've never run from San Francisco! Feeling a foold, with over $50K in my pocket for trading fun, I found the baggage handlers gathered around a nasty wild game of pog, dropped half my money (and most of my pogs) and drove home. Sorry, mates, but I was there in spirit only.

Just for the sake of clarification: When you claim to have designated "$50K" for the noble purpose of trading, you do not, in fact, refer to the absurdly trivial sum of "$50,000"???!! Shocked Shocked

I think its a typo, pickwick.

If I had $50k, I wouldn't be spending it on foil-wrapped packs of cardboard...and I doubt anybody else here would either!!

No typo.

If one doesn't bring enough cash, one cannot possibly hope to acquire the empire's gems. For example, at a show in Amsterdam in '93, I had a chance to acquire the uber-rare Garbage Pail Kid card, "Encephalitic Ender" for the paltry sum of $12,000, but having failed to tote enough liquid capital, I had to watch in horror as the card was purchased and immediately flipped at the infamous 8th Annual Saigon Card Bonanza for nearly twice the purchase price (the Vietnamese cultural elite are rabid about collectibles of any type). Mourning my ill-preparedness, I vowed to never again leave the house without enough greenbacks to cover the cost of the most valuable card likely to be found at a given show (in the case of the London show, it was rumored that the Magic card "Mekka the Turgid" may be on the block for under $35K - a helluva bargain if you axe me).
