[GUN]First Impressions Anyone who has picked up Gun, feel free to weigh in with your impressions! This thread is for discussion of the game itself, there'll be another one in the Last Call Poker area for discussion of game/ARG connections.
Anyway, I'm grooving on it quite a bit. Somehow Neversoft even managed to make the escort and stealth missions fun! In any other game I detest them 100%.
I'm playing on normal difficulty, and things are still pretty easy. Acting and plot are top notch, even if the game does look like its going to be on the short side. Graphics are a bit of a mixed bag - the main characters look great, but NPCs have really stiff and odd looking movements at times.
Addicting!

I'm really digging this game too. There are some big names for voice talent (Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman, Tom Skerritt), the acting is great, I dig the story, and the gameplay is pretty nice. I especially like the animation on the horseys!

I so suck at racing that stupid horse. I am gonna be stuck at that part of the game for time immemorial.
This happened with Halo, too. I hated driving the warthog, and then I learned that you can't freaking finish CE without learning how to drive it well.
@#!%@!!!
Grrr.
Yeah, the voice acting is great. And the easy way in which you get criticized in the first bit is pretty awesome. The timing and pacing of some of the interactions is very, very smooth.

I'm really enjoying it, my roommate and I were up really late last night taking turns trying to kill Hollister and then Creed. Her sister woke up to so someone shouting "shoot the preacher in the head."
It's been a little more violent than I expected. I couple of the cut scenes I had to turn away from. It really deserves the M rating.
Just waiting for Jack Thompson to brand it a horse-stealing/Indian killing trainer.

I suppose it's telling that I spent a few minutes this morning before work doing that horse race a few more times until I won.
BUT I WON
Muahahahahahahaha!

Congrats! I was so excited when I won the race. Got into dodge, and had the horse killed right away. I felt so sad that the horse that I worked so hard to get died.
Then I found out that there's a magic horse fairy in Gun, that brings all the good boys and girls new horsies when they need them

hehe, horse fairy.
I was hoping the horse could be a bit more permanent. After all, any good Cowboy has a deep connection with his horse. Being able to build its stats and stuff would have been fun.
But maybe if Gun is successful we'll get a longer, deeper sequel! Not that this one is bad, there just isn't enough of the good stuff. I say this judging by the fact that I'm already more than halfway through the game, even with doing most of the side missions.

I'm not sure how far through the game I made it yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if I finished it up tonight. Might go back and do more of the side missions afterwards.
The review I saw on gamespot mentioned that they thought it had about 12 hours of play in it, which did seem short. But so far the story has made it worth it for me. I care about/hate the characters. So they did something right
Though the LCP connection does make it more fun. I feel like I know some of the characters already, and me pointing things out makes my roommate want to know more about that story as well. Sort of the reverse of me

Picking up my copy today, 12 hours doesn't sound exciting (usually the only games I buy are extremely long epics, such as the Xenosaga series which weighed in at 80+). Though from the screenshots and videos, it definitely looks interesting.

I'd like it a lot better if I could somehow stop dying. That would be neat.
I am not a gamer, but I like it. It's got an interesting story. And the females have large... personalities! Okay, so what if they are digital personalities...

I did it. Somehow I killed Magruder and won
First time in a couple of years that I managed to win a game!
Wish it had been a little longer, but I'm really happy that I picked it up.

Yeah, I just finished it as well. Short, but sweet.

Okay, I don't know who is swearing more, Magruder or my husband.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
How do you get that damn cave to collapse. He's shooting the dynamite packs up as high as he can and while it shakes, there is no indication of damage done so far. He's getting frustrated.

it took me a while to figure that out...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
First, shoot the little geyser looking things with explosives (dynamite arrows or just plain 'ol dynamite seem to work) as Magruder gets close. They will do the whole geyser thing and damage him. Eventually, he gets fed up and retreats up higher ground. Snipe him in the head and he'll toss out dynamite. This is the point where you need to quickdraw and shoot them all explodey-like. After a few (half dozen maybe? not sure) the cave collapses and game over.

I beat it on with 100%, not including gold mining...
When you get 100%:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You get the reverend's armored horse, and Macgruder's shotgun.
The horse has unlimited health - and I think you can't get harmed on it
The shotgun is freaking awesome. The rounds are explosive, and you can blow people over buildings.
