It seems that the Kiteway who was sick on the night of the theft was indeed Violet as opposed to Sente, with the to and from somehow mixed up on one of the emails. So we can stop the 'Sente is V because of this email' spec and get back to the regular 'Sente is V' spec. Oh, and I take this as yet another reason not to trust Violet, although it should be noted that I seem to have a completely random prejudice against her for some reason. Mumble mumble, deleted post, mumble mumble.

Given that all of the emails after the formation of the cube retrieval team are from their mail system (either to or from a member of them) is it wild spec that the previous ones must have some link to them. The only way I can figure this is that offices which used to belong to either Astrid Lindstrom or Sanjean Adamek and then to one of the 'name withheld's were reassigned and somehow this affects what systems all the emails travel through and means that they end up in the faulty one. I'm kind of being hopeful here because this gives us a way to find out the name of the at least one of the NWs and hence a 3rd Power operative in the Academy. The trouble is, it would be incredibly difficult to persue this line of investigation without revealing the fact that we're getting these, a Bad Idea if ever I've heard one, and I'd prefer to keep getting these rather than investigate what's probably a large leap even in spec terms.

And could Sanjean Adamek's response to Violet not being able to make it to their tea be him fishing for information? It does seem a perfectly natural response, but then again it would be a perfectly natural response if he were a 3rd Power operative who knew that Violet was up to something as well. Witchhunting is fun, no?

I've just had this one - it needs adding into the Wiki:

Might have to cancel raquetball tonight - S is trying to churn through some financial stuff today. Can we reschedule?

Here's my new ones not on the wiki yet...

I disagree. This information is certainly evidence in the theft of the Cube. I'm turning it over to the proper authorities now.

But maybe it really was him? Maybe he put it somewhere out of the way...?

It wasn't him.

Can someone with wiki admin access give all these people a login??

With all the recent activity, it's getting a bit ridiculous that so many people can't edit the wiki. Maybe we could re-enable open registrations for a bit?

I wonder if it might deter some people from posting if they are expected to update the wiki and don't know how, or are a more "casual" player. This kind of puzzle sort of relies on everyone's contributions, so it needs to be as accessible as possible.

Well obviously we wouldn't force people to put them on the wiki too. But if people are wanting to put them on the wiki and are unable to straightaway, I imagine that's quite frustrating.

Besides, the wiki is surely easier to post to than the forum, isn't it?

Not sure if this has been highlighted before but as the mails all seem to either come to or go out of the Academy then surely it is fair to assume that the mails that have names withheld are also either sent from or two the Academy. Pointing to this being an inside job?

Here's another 4 I can't see on the wiki:

Anna -

I respect your abilities as a team leader, but this is out of our hands now. The
matter is closed.

Hey - Anna said you weren't doing anything tonight. Want to come out with me and
Violet and a couple of her friends? There's a classic movie programme at
Ascendancy Point with lectures beforehand, then we'll probably grab some dinner.

Don't know. I'm sure she can rustle someone up for you though. She knows
everyone.

Put it back. She'll only end up blaming Von again, and you know how he can't say
no to her.

Looks like it is. Nearly fell of my seat when I got that one Very Happy

I've just had a thought..... if you get the name wrong in the to: section of an email, it normally doesn't get to the person at all, right? Well there's a number of occasions where the name is wrong (Caine Johannsen and Von Lubick are two I've noticed) in the to: and from: fields.

[spec]Possible evidence of tampering with the emails perhaps? [/spec]

I would trout you with reference to my post earlier, but frankly this thread is impossible to read through (and the two posts are making subtly different points - mine could be rubbish without affecting yours for example)

I think it's still necessary for people to keep posting the emails that they get when they can't put them on the wiki themselves - even if everyone had wiki access (and I'm sure Scott's been inundated with requests, book writing and all) not everyone feels comfortable using a wiki. I know, I know, it's beautifully easy and you just need to copy what you see to put an email in, but that could still be daunting to some. I would love it if everyone learned to change the wiki, that's kind of the point, but it probably won't happen.

The consequence of all of this is that it might be better to have a separate thread for spec on these emails so it doesn't get drowned. Is it possible for a mod to move all the speccy posts to a new thread? Or should we just start a new one?

It's possible that the Academy email system (or the key system in general) takes a calculated guess at where to deliver the message if it comes through with a mispelled name.

...or...

A lot of email software will not display the actual name of the person that you've sent the email to, but rather the name as you've stored it in your personal address book, which may contain spelling errors.

No real reason to suspect tampering just from a few spelling errors. Perplexians are people too - people make mistakes.
