She just updated, telling us in prose-style what happened. And it seems, there will be a continuation?

 		[Update][Nov. 2] Anne's adventures...
It would appear that Anne is back.

Without any true revelations.


basic synopsis follows...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
She describes a pleasant visit to Atlanta. A woman named Katie picks her up and shows her around... but it's not the property that we've all come to know and love. Katie explains that the property is "off limits" due to "construction overhauls." Anne is shown a nice little property, but nothing of importance occurs there. Anne is put up in a hotel in Buckhead. When she inquires about the video, she is effectively dismissed. "That footage was pretty strange. We compared it to the original video footage we have on file, and it appears that it's just some sort of distortion in the tape... maybe caused be exposure to a magnet or x-ray device during shipping. I wouldn't worry about any ghosts haunting our renovation projects, hon."

A strange event occurs at the hotel where Anne is. She is called several times in the evening, but no one is on the line. the final time, however, a man is on the line, and requests for her to meet him in the lobby. Of course, when she gets there, no on is around, and the clerk says it's been empty for the past few hours.


Now, some questions and tidbits of info to ponder...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Who is this Katie? Is she the one who recorded the film? Why did she mention that she's a widow? What kind of "construction" was her husband involved in? It would also seem that she is the woman whose voice we hear when we call VaporLofts, as she is the main secretary. She is also a smoker.

What "overhauls" are being done right now? Obviously, the plans we've seen are finally being set in motion. How long of a process is this going to be?

Who is this man on the line? What lobby would he be referring to? If it's a VOICE FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE, what lobby could it be, metaphorically speaking?

And the final lines in the post. "We're really glad that you're working with us, Anne. Vapor, Inc. appreciates your contribution to our project." She's done NOTHING. What contribution has she made already?

Katie could be involved with the filming or not and she could be anyone from an innocent employee (doubt that) to an operative (doubt that, too).

What's up with that? One of the recorded conversations in the Paris directory mentions that Parrish smokes and he offers Anne a cigarette. Now this. And the lighter on the picture on /gateway/item.html? Are those clues? I thought the smoking bit could be an indication that Katie is getting nervous. This device is often used in movies and on TV.

I remember one of the ciphers somewhere saying that there is "a window of opportunity until the end of the year" to gain the "subject's (Anne's)" confidence. I'd take a guess and say that they will need Anne some time in December and that we will at least have more VaporLofts material up to that point.
But you could interpret the "overhauls" in a different way. Obviously something went wrong along the way. The presence of the ghost in the video suggests that there has been piggybacking or some kind of an accident which now needs to be contained. VL might not even have been aware of this until Anne sent them the video with evidence. I don't suppose they want to risk raising any suspicions, wouldn't you agree?

I'd speculate that the man was a member of the Firekeepers. Probably the same person that put secret messages into Anne's files. It's entirely possible that those people are ghosts! Some kind of spirits who can tap the cyberspace. Laughing

She designed parts (or all?) of their website. That's a job, too, you know. Or maybe it's some kind of foreshadowing, like, "Just you wait, you will make an important contribution in the future you wouldn't even dream about now..." .

Something else I was thinking about:
Anne mentions that the person on the phone knew how to pronounce her name. Now, I think that I might know how to pronounce it, because it's a German name. I can say "Schreber". I have no idea whether or not it's pronounced the same way I'd pronounce it, though. But i guess so. That means, the caller is either German or he speaks it (VL operative? former VL operative? some other operative? not an operative at all?). Or he indeed knows Anne. I guess we can rule out the mysterious Shinpu, because she said she didn't recognize the caller's voice. Despite the fact that you could fake a voice, I don't believe that was the case.

I emailed Anne to try to knock some sense into her. I didn't mention anything we've found at Vapor's site because I think that might freak her out that we're prying into her company's affairs (or her personal image directory). Here's the email I sent, I'll post a reply if I get one.

Like I said in the comment on your LJ, I don't find the details of your trip as reassuring as you do. I'm usually a very down to earth and un-paranoid person (sometimes to a fault), but there are circumstances here that can't be ignored. Obviously, I wasn't there and I just have a small idea of what happened from your journal. Nonetheless, let's look at a couple facts:

1. Site Swap: If the original site was undergoing overhauls, why wouldn't they at least show you the outside of the building and the neighborhood? It sounds like a cover story to me.

2. Um...x-rays...magnets...yeah: There's no way a magnet or x- caused that "distortion" on the tape. The image is in a contained area over several frames of the tape. Ever open a 35 mm camera (ancient technology, I know) with unexposed film? You don't get a small spot on several pictures, you get a few damaged completely damaged pictures and the rest are fine. Either they are ignorant of how film works, or they are trying to make up a cover story and hoping that you are.

3. Is it hot in here, or is it just me? It sounds like Katie got nervous when you mentioned the tape. She pulled out a cig and tried to sound dismissive? Sounds like over-compensation to me. If they really wanted to answer your query, they should have simply shown you their ghost-less original. My guess is that their copy has the image, too.

4. It's 3am and I must be lonely. Like you said, no one knew where you were staying. Your online friends knew you were in Atlanta, but nothing more. Didn't know which hotel. The only people who knew where you were would be people working for Vapor. Why would someone from Vapor contact you at that hour? Perhaps someone was trying to warn you about the company, but after they made the phone call, they couldn't meet you.

Look, I know the above sound like conspiracy theories. But you seem like a smart woman, Anne. I don't think your original gut instincts were wrong. I think you have good reason to be suspicious of this company. I don't really know what you should do next. You have access to their website, right? Why not try poking around there? I wouldn't go trying to hack your way into anything you don't have access to, but maybe you could see if there's anything suspicious online that would support your original misgivings about Vapor.

Anyway, I hope you don't think I'm getting too involved with your life or that I'm stalking you like that Paris guy. Your original posts just piqued my curiosity and I just don't think you should be too trusting of this company and it's dealings. In any event, I look forward to hearing from you about what Vapor has in store for you next.

Abraxas, I think she was talking about "Anne" and how it's pronounced "Annie" -- given that's she's mentioned it to us a few times now. Wink

This guy makes me gag! But, in seriousness, what would happen if he "helped" Anne. and the last line just didnt sound right to me, could be my crazy love for mystery novels kicking in and over analyzing what people say, but i just don't like it.

Btw, sorry that I haven't been able to catch up with you guys. All my professors decided to give me tons of homework the past couple weeks. I'm still here though! Very Happy

 		Might be a bad idea, but I decided to send a little message to Paris by replying to his comment. Mainly I wanted to tell him to back off. But I also included a hint or two that we know about his connection to Vapor. See if you can spot them.
