I've got to believe that the curse is ended because a "Smith" and a "Sullivan" came to peace with one another. Also, although the curse was in effect (ie, someone at the game died), the Gun was not the cause of the death, right, because Kerry shot him with his gun.
On another note, those messages from you folks are awesome and eloquent and make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Great job!
Also, I can't believe that on the last day, I actually got into a game that a player was in and had a kick ass hand and won a crap load of money. How cool is that?

And then the Gun was in Don's hand, the barrel of that cannon like a fat black eye aimed squarely at Kerry's chest, and Lucy found she could not even close her eyes.
That's why I'm not sure how the curse was really ended. If he were to save Lucy's life maybe, but he only saved his own...
I wrote it the way I did because I think that The Gambler comes before What it costs to be free . Don's not stupid; he already doesn't trust Kerry, so he tells him to keep his hands where Don can see them while he's busy shooting Lucy (because she threatened to expose his misdeeds to his children). The only reason Kerry had a chance to pull his own gun is because the Gun exploded when Don tried to use it on Lucy. In other words, I agree with misuba:

And that's how you unspill blood and unmake a death: when pulling the trigger doesn't even injure, let alone kill, the intended target.

I figured the unspilling of blood and the unmaking of death was metaphorical.
And as we all know the best kind of metaphor always involves some bastard getting his hand blown off.

Grumble grumble grumble.
I did this for 1914 and it helped me understand what happened in the history. Here is the 1865/70 time line in a word file.

Actually, the Gun was not always the 'tool' of death at the poker games. For instance, unless I am mistaken, Wild Bill was not killed with his own gun, which he had holstered at his side (in fact, he wasn't even killed by one of the poker players at the table, but by a 'bystander' to the game).
Still, the idea that blood was unspilled by the gun not killing a Smith, well, that really works for me.

No word on Corazon.
See, what happens is this. Kerry takes up a collection amongst all her friends and relations and gives her enough money to go to Trinidad Colorado where Dr. Turner Audi-Tuanini performs the operation marking the final stage in her transition to a woman.
It's true.
Dr. Ivana Kutcherkokov was unavailable

I have to say, I've watched many an arg. This is the first one I've fully participated in, from start to finish. And I gotta say, after this? It's gunna be hard to be impressed.
Does it get better than this?
You are all amazing. I love you guys. I tell all my friends that this place holds the smartest people in the world, and they never ever fight . There is no wank here. It's a wank free zone, which is basically unheard of on the internet.
In other words....you all rock.

update Sorry I missed this update. But I will say that I am glad we had thought that using mercy or not killing when you had the chance, would end the curse.
Go us.

Some people have been having trouble listening to the answering machine messages in Kerry's profile. It appears to be a caching problem.

Ah! You are both certainly correct. Thanks for correcting my misconception!

I still believe that Don would shoot Kerry first as he is the only real threat in the room. And with him out of the way Don could fill out his fantasies of torturing Lucy. Don would have alot more to lose by leaving Kerry alive than Lucy. But ymmv, and it looks like it does.

*snort*
"Only real threat"?
Lucy was the Human Target Junior Shooter of the Year, or whatever, remember?
