[POLL] A name for us?

So, in another thread, someone said:

Quote:
there were so many names I recognized as hardcore ARGNites (is there a common nick for ARGN people?)

Most folks from here have just been calling themselves either "from uf" or "ARG'ers."

Now, it's hard to say whether we would want much more than that, because we all want to avoid creating an us vs. them mentality between us and those who don't realize the full extent of what's happening in this game. And that's all well and good, especially while we're still in a full-bore recruitment stage. One of the core values of this community is the more-is-merrier/n00b-friendly attitude, and I don't think anyone wants to change that.

On the other hand, it's totally natural to come up with lingo (anyone want to "buy a canoe?"). Shared experiences and group identification also are key parts of community-building. And, there's a benefit to identifying one another quickly without getting too META at the poker table. After all, some poker purists have already reacted adversely to those talking about the ARG. Also, calling one another by a group name does not have to feel elietist to the uninititated, and anything that gets strangers asking questions about the ARG is a good thing, IMHO.

So then. Name, anyone?

How about the Poker Palookas
from http://www.poker1.com/mcu/pokerdictionary/mculib_dictionary_info.asp
palooka:
(n) Poor player. In general (nonpoker) usage, this term has a wider but similar application, referring to an athlete (often a boxer) of limited capabilities, or, even more generally, any inept person.

I am so tempted to say Player, as in PLAYAH, and post a pimpnamegenerator as well as other assorted items, but I won't.

Tough one. I dunno, Cardsharks? Something poker related, obviously.

Or Ghost related.

Or both.

Errr...I asked the original question and honestly was asking if there was a generic slang term for those who are ARGN members or ARG players in general that is commonly used. Sorry if it conveyed the impression that it was a tag for an "us vs them" mentality.

Don't worry about that! We pick names for ourselves for every game (see Cloudmakers, Jawbreakers, Metaurchins, Beekeepers, etc.) Geek

If we do the "nickname" thing, we should have some sort of indication that we come from here... kind of like how I found this site during OurColony (ARGonologists? ARGologists? Something like that)

Here's some poker related names.

ARGrinders (Grinder- A player who only aims to win a little money each day.)

ARGutshots (Gutshot- An inside straight draw.)

ARGrifters (Grifter- Cheater, a cheat.)

and some 'Gun' related terms

ARGladius
ARGunners
ARGunslingers

lastly, some ARG starting words... not game related.

Argonauts- (A person who is engaged in a dangerous but rewarding quest; an adventurer.) <---Personal Fave, seems to have the general feel of the game.

Argotics- (Those knowledgable of a secret language or conventional slang peculiar to vagabonds) <--- Also kind of cool.
