[BIOS] All from Perplex Issue 0

Hesketh Zeller
(132AC - 172AC)
is notable not only for his achievements in Cube research but also for his spectacular death. To this day nobody is certain what experiment Zeller was performing; it is known only that he, his lab and equipment, and all of his records were vaporised in a cloud of steam that left no residual heat or noxious gases. After Zeller's death, a hiatus on active Cube experimentation was called that persisted for nearly 50 years. In modern times, research has resumed, but proceeds very cautiously indeed.

Susan Marchant
(78AC - 150AC)
was the first researcher to focus solely on the Cube. She studied it in near isolation for over twenty years. She described phenomena we have only been able to test in the last twenty years - all of which have thus far proven atunningly accurate. Marchant was famously driven mad in her twighlight years. She claimed that the Cube was a self-aware entity, and that it was communicating with her via her senses.

The Puzzle Scribes

Anna Heath - The Counsellor
Speciality: Language
Favourite card: #002 Designer Flakes
You in one word: "Competent, I suppose."
Quote: "It can be difficult to keep a team of such strong personalities working together smoothly. It's a credit to all of us, and to Sente, that we've meshed into a sharp team. It's incredibly fortunate, and I feel lucky to be a part of this. Not everyone enjoys the company of collegues to go out together socially after a long day of work."

Caine Johannson - The Rock Star
Speciality: Maths; music.
Favourite card: #117 Band Name Etymology
You in one word: "I don't think you could print it."
Quote: "Yeah, Earth is pretty cool. It's interesting to get such a good look at a place so different from home. Makes you see yourself with new eyes. Wouldn't want to live there, though."

Tippy Ankron - The Socialite
Speciality: Puzzle Mimic
Favourite card: #123 Illogical
You in one word: "Irresistable, of course."
Quote: "When I first found out Sente was assembling this team, I knew I had to be on it. I brought my most formidable powers of pursuasion to bear to convince him to give me a spot and of course I got what I was after. Don't I always?"

Garnet Reed - The Military Man
Speciality: Cryptology
Favourite card: #121 Seven Bridges
You in one word: "Nothing but practical."
Quote: "The Cube is an artifact whose meaning to us is incalculable. I worry the people of Earth may not fully understand how important the Cube is to us. It's my highest duty to the city to work dilligently for its return. Nothing less would do."

Aiko Entrescore - The Artist
Speciality: Visual Arts
Favourite card: #035 Smile
You in one word: "One word? Introspective."
Quote: "I suppose we all know I'm a very religious person. Being a part of this team, and working on returning the Cube to it's rightful place in Perplex City, is definitely the most meaningful work I could have imagined doing."

Von Lubik - The Youngest
Speciality: Earth Trivia
Favourite card: #140 Mornington Crescent
You in one word: "I'd say enthusiastic!"
Quote: "I'll never forget the day I found out Master Kiteway had hired me for the team. I must have flipped out, for real. What an honour to be working among these brilliant scholars! I just hope I can earn my place. To feel like I belong here, you know?"

Kurt Mcllister The Techno-Geek
Speciality: Technology
Favourite card: #138 Geek Antiques
You in one word: "How about 'varied'?"
Quote: "Earth is really fascinating to me, so it's been terrific to get a chance to actually interact with Earth people personally. Anna and Sente really gave us a free hand, so I'm able to indulge myself in a lot of areas I wouldn't otherwise get to persue. Very liberating."

So, any strange stories from the year 1909 involving a man and some lab equipment appearing from nowhere? No? Probably landed in the ocean. Just our luck.

made me think of the following, but it's a year out Sad

Quote:
In Brief:
At 7:17 AM on the morning of June 30, 1908, a mysterious explosion occurred in the skies over Siberia. It was caused by the impact and breakup of a large meteorite, at an altitude roughly six kilometers in the atmosphere. Realistic pictures of the event are unavailable. However, Russian scientists collected eyewitness accounts of the event. I believe that we now know enough about large impacts to "decode" the subjective descriptions of the witnesses and create realistic views of this historic asteroid impact as seen from different distances.

I have a feeling we may see Zellar again, they never found the body afterall, also if Susan Marchant could predict the future it wouldn't surprise me if the cube had time transportation abilities. A bit out there but you never know Wink

how can you have a puff of steam and leave no residual heat? I presume it wasn't water then.

Well technically, the boiling point of a liquid is dependent upon air pressure, so with enough of a vacuum, you can get steam at room temperature. (Sort of the reverse of a pressure-cooker which keeps water as a liquid at temperatures higher than 100C.)

But... errr.... yeah, I get your point. Wink

Well, technically, if he disappeared, then there would have been a vacuum created by that disappearance. So that could've created the 'steam'.
