That thing still plays Halo 2 just fine, you know.
I know! I actually played a couple of games last night! It was good to see Thunderclap, Krystyn and Ubercado! And some new people as well!
I'm sucking quite a lot now, due to my 3+ months of halo absence. Plus I got some worrying slowdowns during the zanzi game! It was not lag, since the sound also got screwy for a couple of seconds. I hope it was just that particular game. I don't think I can get used to that, if it's always like that!
Now every x360 owner should download the Fight Night Round 3 demo! Go now! It's the most amazing looking game I've ever played!! And I thought it was pretty damn fun as well! That demo made me oversleep today and get late at work ...

And it was a pleasure to play Halo 2 with you again waters!
I, personally, have not experenced the aforementioned slowdown during Halo 2. It might have been lag or a hiccup in the emulator.
On another note, if you have a chance to pick up Condemed for the 360...do it. I haven't been halfway through the first mission and have jumped out of my chair three times. Scary stuff. and the atmosphere that the game conveys is amazing.
and I finally sat down over the holiadys and watched all of Firefly and then watched Serenity...I love it! (slaps self in head for waiting so long to see these shows)

Sorry I missed you, Waters. Next time, I'll make a point of looking around for you.
Thanks for the new game tips, Waters and Ubercado. I'm actually interested in games that are scary, surprising, or different somehow. I get so tired of these endless comparisons of graphics on games that play essentially the same way they have for 3 versions or more. That's why it's hard for me to get excited about COD2 or DOA4 or most of the new XBox 360 titles. They're not really new games.

Clayfoot...
COD2 is an incredible experience with a surround sound system and a widescreen HDTV. The graphics are amazing and very convincing. The sound really keeps you grounded in the game expirence. Now I will concede that it is a sequel to an over used setting but they did do a wonderful job on putting the player in the game setting.
kinda dropped the ball on multiplayer though...
DOA4 - While being a fighting game, and not my particular cup of etherial tea, is a good game for what it is designed for. If you like the whole Mortal Wombat, Street Fighter, Soul Caliber type of games then this one sould suit you just fine. It does have a nice multiplayer component and is a smooth and graphicialy pleasing game. The multiplayer lobbys are a interesting departure from what we are used to in Halo and quite humorous at times.

True, there's no real innovation, I agree. But I'm one of those guys that believe better graphics really help to increase the immersion factor! And man, COD2 is a great experience! Not only the graphics, but like Uber mentioned, the sound is just awesome! I really think this games captures the chaos you'd experience in a combat situation!

This is getting annoying ... I'm playing like crap right now, but this slowdown is only making things worse! I don't get on every match, but it always happens with loads stuff on the screen, right when I'm running with guns blazing. I end up losing the track of my target and usually getting killed!

I'll get the demo from marketplace. I'm not a big fan of dark, scary games, but my wife usually loves it. But I showed her the trailer and she thought it was a bit too violent ... It might be a rental later on for me.
What did you think of the FN3 demo? I saw you playing it last night.

Amen! This is why I like my Nintendo DS so much, there's creative and 'weird' games left and right, even if the graphics aren't top of the line.
My first reaction upon playing the 360 was that while very shiny, the games really introduce very little new to the table. Think of the leap in gameplay from the SNES to the N64. The 360's scale of advances don't hold a candle.
Similarly, the Revolution is the only next-gen console that interests me in the near future (unless Halo 3 comes out suddenly).

It puzzles me that people keep using "surround sound" as a new feature in the XBox 360. The original XBox always had true 5.1 surround sound. I've been playing Halo 2 with my cheapo 5.1 surround sound setup for almost a year, now. It really helps me figure out where shots, voices, and vehicles are. I figured everyone else was doing the same thing. Is everyone else playing Halo 2 in just stereo?

I know 5.1 is been around for a while. I've had my home theater set up way before I had my xbox.
But you gotta admit that even though the hardware supports it, it doesn't mean the game developers will make a good job with the game! COD2 has a beautiful 5.1 sound design. It just works better than most games! Hearing so many soldiers screaming and bullets flying is a great experience! Talking about it doesn't seem anything special, so you have to try for yourself. I think it's the best war experience in all games!
Oh and I heard comdemned has a also great 5.1 sound.

I've been playing on a mono speaker TV with RF video up until I got my 360 and the VGA adapter.
Now I am on my LCD monitor with 2.1 sound (I have a 5.1 setup on the computer that shares the monitor, but it doesn't accept optical input the price I pay for cheapness i guess. )

Fugitive,
Go to your local radio shack and get one of these. It should help with your problem and you can hook up your surround sound. It's also CHEAP This is what I had to get because my speakers didn't accept Optical inputs also.

Wow, that's cheap! What a great idea! I keep trying to find an inexpensive way to hookup 5.1 surround headphones to the XBox. Most of the products out there assume PC audio inputs and outputs --useless with the XBox. I wonder if that would aid me in my quest.

Give it a shot. If it doesn't work then you're only out $4.00...

Yes, the xbox does have 5.1 surround sound and yes SOME games did take advantage of it. But, IMHO, I feel that certain games that have been released for the 360 have really used it to increase the feeling of immerison(sp) that a good game needs to portray a situation or the action on the screen. For example, I once again give you COD2 and Condemed. These are just two games that really pull you in. At least me anyway...
There are more on the horizion...Gears of War, Splinter Cell 4, Ghost Recon 3 and Halo 3. Just to name a few...
I too have been playing Halo 2 with 5.1 since I got it. I love it. Part of the reason I keep coming back to Halo over and over again, besides y'all of course, is the immersion factor and how great of a job Bungie did to "put you in the game".

i just recently (last week) bought a cheapo 5.1 logitech system, especially for condemned. it works suprisingly well for just $50. the sound quality is excellent for the price. i never had 5.1 before last week and now im hooked. it really does enhance the experience. in condemned, which is scary enough, but actually being able to hear someone behind you (or not) is just plain creeeeeeepy. i have yet to play cod2 but i may pick it up and then no new games until burnout which is looking to be awesome.
