I'm with Murff...is this just a guess that worked or is there some clue I'm not picking up on?

The books are on the shelf volumes 1 to 10, left to right.
Where is page 1 of book 1 in relation to page 1000 of book 10?

ooohhh, I get it.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
when a book is ona ashelf, you are looking at the spine, so the "first" page on the left - as you are looking at it, is the last page of the text. Conversely, the book on the far right of the shelf - volume "10", has as the page on the far right as its first pag

sometimes the "easiest" puzzles are actually the most challenging

I think they're going for:

Wait a sec, if we accept that there is no trickery in the card, then each book has 500 pages then there is

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
5000 pages

but then I thought what if they include the covers which would add 2 pages per book except Vol 1 and Vol 10 which would make the answer

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
5018

Needless to say they did not accept either! Cursing

covers are irrelevant, as the question asks 'how many pages of writing' were eaten through.

just get 10 books, and put them on a bookcase. it'll become clear.

hmmm

OK... I put in the answer I liked, which is 5010.

I got this from a 1000 pages of text being on 501 physical sheets of paper.

I got the "Bad Luck" result I am sure when all are familiar with.

THEN when I tried another answer I got "Already solved" and found the 13 points have been credited to me....

Any thoughts?
