if i see what i think i do Confused your green line on the far most right top and bottom squares cannot go in the way youve shown because neither arrow points in the direction that you have implied. So thus making the shortest route we all know correct. Any second oppinions?

Ah yes, I see it now. I think you're right.

Hmm, perhaps knowing this rule would have made solving the maze by hand non-nightmarish Smile

You can always go from extreme south to extreme north, or vice versa, and ditto for east and west. So the green line is, in fact, valid.

The card does not say that. It says "If you step off the grid you must re-enter at the other end of the same row or column". That just says what happens when you manage to step off the grid; it doesn't say anything about where that's allowed. The only statement about where you're allowed to move is "You can step one square at a time, always following the arrows".

Hahaha, okay.... I solved this one without looking on any forums, but I did it in the hardest possible way. =)

I decided that this was a great opportunity for me to write a flash app that would solve it for me. The code that I used is basically the same as you would use to find the fastest path between two points on a grid. I needed to understand it so that I could use the code for enemies in my flash games...

Anyway, here it is, my flash application designed to solve this puzzle!

fun

this is a great, fun little card. Solved it by hand in about 10 minutes, most of the wrong paths lead to eddies so finding the correct path is just a matter of a little old fashioned trial and error. I admire the program that was written to solve it as well though Wink
