the great bsicuti debate

Much as it shames me to know this ....

jaffa cakes were officially reclassed as biscuits recently (after substancial lobbying by their owner) as biscuits attract 0% VAT whereas cakes attract 17.5 % VAt .....

Definitions about going hard versus soft versus tax liability ....

Tax wins ....

:-/

Personally they will always be cakes to me. damn it they are called Jaffa CAKES!

The "nice cup of tea and a sit down" book has a really good section on what Jaffa cakes are and why they are it. I believe the debate was settled by a 17-inch version... Wink

but surely

But surely the real debate should evolve around the correct way to eat a Jaffa cake?

Every knows you should eat all the sponge first then lick of the chocolate leaving the jelly till last. Very Happy

No, no, no! You don't dismantle the thing, you put the whole thing in your gob at once, and then silently curse the person who has chosen that moment to phone you Very Happy

For the sake of completeness...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"jammie dodger" is now accepted, as is the alternative "Ginger Snap" for number 8.

Which I submitted after two failed attempts - it seems ten years in a french speaking country hasn't taught me the sex of butter Embarassed

Being a bloody yank, the only two "biscuits" on the card that I've ever seen/eaten are numbers five and seven. And I only found seven in the upscale grocery store ten minutes away from my house that has an "international foods" aisle. That, and it pains me to see them called "biscuits" because in America, biscuits are something you eat for breakfast somthered in sausage gravy. Yeah, number five + sausage gravy = upchucking. They're "cookies" to us. But "cookie" is also cowboy slang for the chef du jour, but that's another rant.

Note to Mind Candy,

At the next US live event - Tea and biscuits please.

Should "The Cube" be lost forever you will be able to console yourselves that you have educated a part of Earth in the rituals of afternoon tea.

Frankly, after pouring through EVRERY SINGLE image at nicecupofteaandasitdown.com (Great site BTW), I have decides that ya'll need some better "sweet snacking baked goods" over on your side of the pond. Don't you have CHOCOLATE chips over there? I'm talking about warm, gooey, fresh from the over cookies, that are soft and the chocolate melting all over your face and fingers.
- Hang on, I need to do some baking -
(returns and gets chocolate all over keyboard)
What do you call a soft, small bread, served with possible butter, jam, honey or for breakfast, smothered in sausage gravy? Not made with yeast, so it is not a "roll" or "bread".

Who????????,

I think mama_needs_a_new_car might be refering to a Waffle.
Not an easy one to figure out because in the UK they're made out of potato.

Is he taking the Michael out of the content of his post?

Philistines!!!!!!!!!
The only true and definitive modus operandi for a Jaffa Cake's consumption is to nibble the chocolate off the edges, then lever the jaffa and chocolate off the sponge base, turn it upside down and put it back on the sponge, stick the whole thing in your mooey and enjoy! Coffee

Of course with the release of LIMITED EDITION flavours, the regulations go out the window! (I'll try to discover a judges ruling!)
