LOL - you even got that bit wrong. It *is* spelt Antarctic - it is the opposite, or anti- of the arctic.

Couldn't get an exact fix on this on google earth. The compass went mad, so I thought it might be (geo)magnetic south, but that doesn't seem to be fit from other references. Haven't got the card to check.

that would fit with the background on the card which looks like concentric circles all emitting from the coordinates.

EDIT: just had my 3 attempts for today,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
geomagnetic south,
magnetic south
and Scott of the Antartic.

none of them worked though

Are we sure that this is Earth polar as opposed to Mars polar?

On the basis that this is Earth polar, Grazyna Bluff is approximately 3.5 minutes due west. 3.5 minutes is approximately 1.6 kilometres.

So we basically need to know what lies 1.6 kilometres due West of Grazyna Bluff.

Still, doesn't get us very far...

Scott's Bones or Scott's body or something, They set up camp around there, he walked off, and the exact location isn't widely known. so something along the lines of Scott of the Antarctic, I don't have the card, so I can't try it myself

That was my first thought, but then the questions is "what lies here?" not "who". Could still be something along the lines of his tomb, but I'm not sure.

Well ive looked at some maps and theres nothing of interest there. Not a key feature or landing site for miles.

So, what is the chance that they actually placed something at that location on the pole, or that you could see something specific if standing there?

Any very hi-res and very recent orbital pictures available do you think?

I just noticed that when i posted earlier with links to 2 different maps for Antarctica, i put the wrong URL in for the USGS map. Embarassed
Ive corrected my earlier post, and the proper url is http://geography.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://usarc.usgs.gov/antarctic%5Fatlas/
(didnt work perfectly on Firefox, but works well in IE).

In other news, after a search on Google, i came across a site that lists historic sites and monuments in Antarctica. There are about 10 that are pretty nearby to the location on this card, but none that match exactly. The url for the site and the list of close monuments is:

Using that site, I found 2 possible candidates:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Graznya Bluff and Pakaru Icefalls
