[EMAIL] Name that Rock Competition over

Just got the following email from Steven Mae:

Quote:
Dear Name that Rock Contestant,

We have had an unbelievable response to our Name that Rock contest and are pleased to announce that we have chosen a winner! The decision was not an easy one with over 400 different names to choose from, but once we saw the winner's suggestion we knew that we had our name.

An Orbicon Corporation Representative will be contacting the winner and runners up to confirm eligibility requirements and complete the necessary paperwork.

Thank you to everyone who entered the Name that Rock contest!

We would also like to apologize for the technical difficulties we had on our website over the weekend. We are having some server issues that should be resolved shortly.

Steven Mae
Orbicon Corporation

We don't know yet.. but I don't think there are 400 players. Either somethign will happen to abort the contest and/or chnage the prize... or someone who isn't one of us will win. Perhaps another character.

I'm also curious to see what the name of this Rock will be. I think it's going to be hilarious if this turns out to be a major plot point, but is called something like "Chris Rock" Laughing Laughing

What will be interesting to see is if they send out CD's to the "runner up" entry. I can almost *smell* a puzzle coming on...

but I still want to win ;)

Not expecting a response, I replied to the form email with a terse "I want to win" email.

I got this in reply:
Quote:
Now you wouldn't be trying to get me to reveal company secrets would you? Wink Actually, I don't even know the names of the winners at this point. We picked the winning rock names using a blind system. Most likely I won't know who won until right before the announcement is made on the site (which should be soon). The lawyers have to go through all of the usual hoops to make sure we've made the right decision.

I was surprised at the wide variety of names submitted. Although, I'd say at least half of them were names playing on the word rock. I had a good chuckle after reading a few of them. Luckily, there were quite a few selections that were suitable choices. Dr. Bronco made the final decision after we narrowed the list down to only a few.

I'll be crossing my fingers for you!

Steven Mae

Did you ever receive the inital confirmation email? Have you gotten any of the other emails from Orbicon? Have you checked your spam folders? As I'm pretty sure that this is just a mass emailing to all of the emails collected from the Name that Rock contest, it seems odd that your email would have failed to make the list twice unless there was some problem somewhere. I would double check to make sure that there isn't a problem on your end, and then contact the webmaster directly to have your information put in if you can't find the problem.

Interestingly, the submission form still works, and there's no indication at the www site that the contest is over...

The Name That Rock!™ contest has ended and we have chosen our winners! The finalists are:

Crystal Gray
Richard Moriarty
Paul Melamud
John Purdon
Karl Smith
William Stanley
Robert Teszka
Tim Waters
Robert Williams

All finalists will be contacted by email to verify eligibility and to confirm shipping info.

One lucky finalist will win the Grand Prize, an all expenses paid vacation on the Orbital Space Colony*, a CD of Space Colony Music and, of course, the chance to Name That Rock!™. All other finalists will win a CD of Space Colony Music.

As a special holiday treat, a bonus prize has been added to the contest. All finalists are eligible to participate in a private online chat with Orbicon COO, Steven Mae. Finalists will be able to ask Steven questions about the space station, space elevator and what it is like to live on an orbital colony. The chat will take place on Tuesday, November 29th at 9pm Eastern. Finalists will be contacted with more details.

Um, is that who I think it is?
