Im checking out the location tomorrow day, so we can actually rule out (or in) any locations with the use of actual fact, as apposed to arrogance.

There is certainly no harm in checking it out during the day if you live near by but looking at how close Thornton Heath Station is to gillett road:
http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=public&lang=&pc=CR78RX
I think this may be a dead end Sad
Thornton Heath was opened in 1862, so no reason at all for another station to be so close.

I know these things as facts:

- There is no station on Gillet Rd in Thornton Heath.
- There is a station near Gillet Rd called Thornton Heath, but it is not a subway station and it is in no way abandoned - look at all the trains that are using it right this second.

This tells me that we don't seem to have the right place but I am willing to catch hypothermia on 10pm this Sunday given that I live very near there. It will almost certainly be a waste of time, but if we don't have a better solution by then (and I'm guessing that Violet etc must be sick of emails asking about Gillet Rd and the kindling of the flame by now, they'll reply soon enough if it's Perplexian road). Ryandrew has said that he lives near there (makes me kind of curious where) and so feels that spending half an hour or so of his time checking it out without hypothermia is worthwhile.

This is a very long shot, but the only shot we currently have and we're far too impatient to sit around doing nothing.

I only live about 10 miles away, so if I can grab a lift from my 'rents I'll go along to. It's only about half hour so if nothing happens I'm not losing much Smile

Anyone think they might be talking about Hanukkah? I think it's sometime late December this year, which seems like a more reasonable time. I'd be surprised if the event was this Sunday. Seems kind of sudden.

I had this same thought and looked up some details being as I am not Jewish...

Apparently Hanukkah begins on December 25 this year.
From Torah for Tots
"Those eight miraculous days were chosen as the eternal symbol to commemorate the miracle of Chanukah - the eight day long Festival of Lights, where we light the Menorah each evening, publicizing the miracle Hashem performed some 2000 years ago. ...

The question then arises, since the oil was adequate for one night, only seven days were miraculous. Why, then, wasn't Chanukah made a seven day festival? Many answers have been given over the years."

"In 2005 Hanukkah begins at sundown on December 25. "

Sundown could point at the 10pm time but a weke on from that is new years eve.

and also...

Of course it is, as the CD was made and was planned on being released in Perplex City.

7/1 that Gillett Road is in PPC

50/1 that there will be nothing on Sunday at 10pm

(max bet £10). Any takers?

Wouldn't a week later actually be on January 1, New Year's Day (cue U2) at 10 PM?

Alright, first problem solved at least. It's "Gillit Road", and it's in PerplexCity. Now we simply need to agree on a date/time, and find a suitable member of our contacts to go there and play Secret Squirrel....

I decided to consult Kurt...

Quote:
Hi Kurt,
I note from one of the puzzle cards which you designed for us members of the
Earth CRT, that you are a bit of a player of "Mornington Crescent". As I'm sure
you are aware, the game is very popular over here also, and features many
different variations of rules and subtleties of play. I am looking into the
possibilities of a paper, detailing the main differences between the Perplex
City version, and our own here on Earth.

To this end, I am attempting to collate a list of stations which feature in your
subway system, but I'm sure that I am missing some. The information which I'm
going by, might possibly be out of date, so I was wondering if you could take a
quick glance over my listing, and perhaps give me a pointer or two about any
which I am lacking. I do intend to include a list of all stations used here on
Earth, including those which are abandoned or simply closed - so any which are
in a similar state on your side of the equation would be useful to know also.

Kindest Regards

J

His response came back as....

Quote:
Hi Jamie,

You're correct in saying that I'm a fan of Mornington Crescent; indeed, I was placed second in the all-departments Academy Second Division Crescent Challenge 2005, and was only prevented from winning by a particularly nefarious use of the 'Reverse Triple-jump Cyclotron' (which, as I'm sure you're aware, takes advantage of the fact that the Perplex City Subway runs 24 hours a day).

Your list of subway stations is accurate - those are all the stations in the 'central' area (i.e., those used for modern 'casual games' of Mornington Crescent). If you want to include a couple of abandoned stations, I know there's one at Gillit Road, and another on Scope Road.

Cheers,

Kurt

Clever! Nice way to get the info by using Mornington Crescent!
Well perhaps Kurt will be willing to meet the person/s on the date and time as well if we mention it to him? I would say Violet as well, bit of moral support for him, but she's gonna be busy collating our book around then if we are right about the date.

Or how bout Sente? Laughing About time he did something for us!

Actually thinking about it, has anybody found any new blog sites for these recently introduced characters? Like Von? or even Tippy? (I know we knew about them before but over the last few weeks weve been hearing alot more about them.)

Just sent one asking about The Kindling Of The Flame :
Quote:
Kurt,
I'm hoping to become better versed in Perplex City culture. As it's Winter here on Earth, I've decided to focus on light. The most primitive form of light is fire, and at this time of the year, it is common for people on earth to light candles. Last Sunday, the Winter Olympic Torch was lit (a big symbolic fire), and in a few weeks, Jewish People (a religion, like Reconstructionism) will light 8 candles, one a day, to celebrate light, many Christians light candles for an "Advent Crown" counting down the weeks until Christmas (originally a Pagan festival of light and fire). Also, to escape the cold, people like to gather around a wood-stoked fire. Do you have any fire based festivals or customs in Perplex city?
Yours sincerely,
oliverkeers13 (CRTEarthDiv.)
